We are beginning to consider a worthy reporter to give this scoop to. Of course I thought of Jesse Kline right away from the National Post but are there any other suggestion on a reporter that would give this a fair hearing?
This story has (in no particular order);
- the poison workplace
- union misrepresentation
- waist of taxpayers money
- health and safety
- scaremongering
- facts up the ying-yang
- government inaction (Federally as well as Provincially)
- public ignorance
- anti-smoking vs harm reduction
Sure I've missed some ...
Looks like I might get a crack at actually bringing some information to the table. After my acting president of my local hadn't responded to my email after a week, I forwarded it over his head (yesterday). I got a reply from a staff representative who said he wants to talk tomorrow, today he said he's doing some background work. The email I sent had a bunch of links to studies regarding E-Cigarettes, so hopefully, he's going to read some of that and maybe do some of his own research first. I've never met this representative, but I did some research on him, and he seems like a pretty straightforward, no BS kinda guy. I'll post back after we've had a chance to talk, and give you guys an update.
So even though the employers policy is unjust, continues to wrongly label us as a danger, singles us out for special consideration, is impractical as it applies to us even using the devices ..... the union doesn't see that as a problem?? Bovine Excrement!
Maybe we should be appealing the MOL decision on those grounds, that the inspector imposed unnecessary restrictions on us given their endorsement that it was "unlikely to endanger".
JH&S isn't doing anything about the smokers, just us. The thing that really gets me isn't just that people are abusing the protection of my union, it's that the union is using it's protections against me. One if the refusers is the acting president of my local union. I can't for the life of me figure out what their issue is with vaping. It makes me laugh, but it's the laugh of the maniacally downtrodden slipping into the mouth of madness. Anyway, I've reached out above my local, since I haven't received a response from them and it's been a week. I give this another week then I might be forced to seek action legally and / or publicly. This game they're playing is ridiculous.
So after the union staff rep called and said he didn't want to talk about misrepresentation, and said there's nothing they can do about the policy and the fact that it is harassment and discrimination, I emailed him a summary of our conversation and asked him to confirm... Well it's been 2 days now, he replied yesterday and said he's give me a call by thismorning. I replied that I'd prefer email communication, no reply back yet. I've been burned before with conversations that "never happened", so I prefer to have an email record. Seems like they don't want to go on record, heaven forbid they be accountable for their actions...
On a side note, I've been brainstorming the past couple of days some good slogans and / or art work that could be applied or printed on t-shirts, jacket patches, hats, toques etc...
Something like "I vape because everyone's health is my concern", "I'm a vaper, you're welcome", "vaping saved my life, the government wants to take it" etc...
These are just some ideas, I'd like to see what you guys can come up with! The idea is to get people's attention in a positive way that will get them talking, thinking, and asking questions. The more people that are well informed the better!
