Another thought on top coil. You really can get it closer than you think.
I tried that often. So often that I have vaporized 4 coils and about 2 full tanks of juice. I get it even and its okay for about two pulls and go back to shorting. That's where the frustration comes from. Shoot I wish it was that easy.I'd just fiddle with the coil... mine was doing that at first but when I moved the coils around, it started to glow evenly and hit awesome.
No wicking issues. My only problem is that coil shorting out constantly. I bet the insulation may help some though. You use the paper clip in the center of the wick right? I do the same. Its just so easy that way.Yeah many have said the Orion is tricky. My first genesis, so I can't say.
Nudge your coils slightly. I often can't get the top coil perfect. I just power through, not inhaling. After 1/4-1/2ml, the coil seasons.
Did you say wicking was an issue?
Thanks a million for taking the time to help. I am use to the HOH thread where no one wanted to help at all. I would post and not one person would reply. Its was truly like talking to a wall.Striker. I had a little issue getting my top coil to stop shorting. I oxidize the heck out of my wicks. They are completely black, and I also burn/quench in VG. They wick great, almost to good at times. I see people holding their Orions, Katanas, and Zens at a 2 o'clock position to vape in videos, and just don't understand that with a full tank. If I do that, mine flood. I have to hold mine @4-5 o'clock when full, and only hold it up like that when my tank gets low, like almost empty. I have gotten in the habit (good or bad) of re-using a wick, just hitting it with a torch and quenching it. Especially if I have a wick that works particularly good.
Anyways. The Orion has the two washers to hold the kanthal. I leave some kanthal hanging so I can adjust if need be. I wiggle the kanthal @the base screw to break/cut after wrapping the coil, but leave enough after trimming at the top so that I can pull it out. I just tuck it down so it doesn't touch the cap.
So then I fire and quench my coil with some more VG to start seasoning a little. Looking for hot spots. I try not to dry burn to much. IF I can't get a hot spot out, which usually seems to be that top coil on the Orion so far... I just try the nudge first.... Still no luck... I pull it from the washers. And unwrap just the top coil if that is the culprit, and then rewrap it in a slightly diff position... or maybe a little looser or more snug, until I get it. It takes patience... but it works for me. I like the washer/spring setup for this reason. When I am good, I watch it while it fires on a WET wick to ensure I see vapor being produced by ALL coil wraps. Also, on my new V2.1, I noticed some burrs in the bottom of the wick hole because my wick did not slide through easily. This was a short waiting to happen, so I cleaned them out.
On another note. I picked up a V2 so now I have a backup. The finish is MORE matte then the V2.1, and has more texture to it, whereas the 2.1 is has texture, but less. I like the button on the 2.1 SOOO much, I am going to cut the button down on the V2. I also need to open the mouth piece a little on the V2. I went to clean the V2, as it was used... The washers had build up on them where the kanthal makes contact!!! and it didn't come off to easy. I ended up using an fine emory board (thanks 2 my wife) to clean it off. I also have a ton of these washers from RC days... Check your washers!!! especially if your Orion is not "hitting" like it should.
:
I sold my Orion for this main reason. Its great, dont get me wrong. Heck I've thought about getting the new 2.1v because of the recessed button and finish.
But, I personally believe that the wick IS shorting to the tank frame (positive) causing the hard times for folks. If this device came with / or had PTFE inserts installed into the tank this would be greatly reduced. I would go to the site we all know by now and buy the PTFE inserts and try it. ????
When she works its as awesome as they come.

Striker, the wire is supposed to go between the washers. I've heard of others having luck the way you are wrapping. Not so sure about leaving a tail of wire up there though. Wouldn't that zap a bit of energy?
Try this, tighten down your top nut a bit. I forgot I had to do that and noticed a big difference on set up.
I have a Zenesis on the way. Now Im concerned even more. I hear ya about asking questions. Seems like more time could be spent helping customers out. I hope it lives up to the hype.![]()

You like bottom buttons. I think you will like your Zenesis just fine... but the size may surprise you in comparison to your little V1s!
Yeah, the size is certainly a little niggle. I'll know on Monday.Tall mods are not good for me as a rescue is always bumping a table. I rarely ran the V2 in 18650 mode and I really loved those in a bf.
Unless the zenesis blows my socks off, I suspect it will move on. Really love my V1s and thanks to you I have a spare. As Les said, now it's bullet proof! Other than new mind blowing genesis tech, what more could I want?
I bought from Terry last round. Just be aware there can be chips at cut ends. Jolly has it now and it's been in use with no problems about 4-5 weeks.Orion V2 Glass Tanks - Mod Maker Sales - UK Vapers - Page 11
glass tanks, i think the list closes sunday or monday? but they are coming from the UK
Pit Bulls here... They know to stay away from table legs![]()
We rescued some, but ended up adopting two of them. We were German Shepherd people, when our last died tragically, we couldn't get another... So that is the short story... I love Border Collies, my wires family had one when we were dating, she was a great dog!
Mine aren't getting all that hot... They get a little warm chain vaping, but not hot. However, a silicon cart condom would work nicely. I have a bunch I keep around for that and for letting other people try my PVs.
