32gauge kanthal here. It is not what was provided. I am not sure what Les provides. But the 32g doesn't pop so easy. I get shorts when building a new coil, usually on the top wrap. I think what happens is when you tuck the kanthal into the washers, if you pull on it to hard wrapping into the M2 post, you break oxidation. But I can make them go away with some nudging usually. I have wrapped a few and good from the get go.

It is my first orion however I do have a Zenesis that is working perfectly.
The battery is installed correctly, positive down.
The wick is not touching anywhere. If I tighten up the top of the wick so that it does touch the top pole, it will not pop the coil, it just burns that top coil very hot.

1- tighten the nut till 2-3 threads are showing and see if that does it.
2- I think this is pretty common until the wire gets dark. What I do is pulse fire it while keeping it wet till it hunks up a bit.
3- wind between the washers, not washer & nut.
4- make a ? Shape in the lead to shorten the distance.

If your oxidized well, not touching sides of the wick hole, no shorts elsewhere.... That's all I got!

Sorry, that's the best bit of my help. The Orion is my first Genny and I've had zero problems--but I'm thinking that's because I haven't had it long enough

I've spent a couple months watching videos on how to roll and what to do and what I've got now is my own method based on all of them--but I can't remember most specific symptom or fixes anymore. I do know moving the wick closer to the pole is a suggested fix for a hotspot between the wick and pole, but on this coil all I had to do was put a drop of juice on the wire and burn it off and the problem went away :)

More knowledgable people will be along shortly, I'm sure...

Im far from being an expert but I just got my Orion a couple days and was having the same problem. The only thing I could figure that was causing the problem was a short in the wick. I got mine going by making a new wick and rolling it much tighter then my original one (which fit very slightly snug) so that its somewhat loose in the hole. I also spent a little extra timing burning some juice on the upper half of the wick to get some more soot build up on that area.
It still took a little fiddling with the coil but not much.
The zenesis comes with an insulator for the wick which makes it much easier to prevent this problem. I think someone posted pics of insulators for the orion wick somewhere (maybe even in this thread)... I think it was tierrataz. Getting your hands on some of these may make the setup process much easier.
Hopefully this helps.... someone who has a lot more experience then me probably has just the answer youre looking for... <-- See what I mean (edit)

I popped 2 coils setting mine up, hot spots at the top coil... I fiddled with the positioning of the coil, tilted to 2 o'clock and burned for 2-3 seconds for maybe a 1/3 of the tank and now all coils are glowing evenly.. Dunno what I did but it's hitting great now, definitely wicks much better than my Zen... not sure if it's the thicker wick but with a larger airflow hole, it would be my go to APV... Even with the cap off, the Orion spits way more vapor than the Zen with the same coil setup, and it fires EVERYTIME, no intermittent firing or misfires.

I'm using 32awg Kanthal.

Nice, im using 32 also, just ordered 30 to try,
Is there any replacement options on tanks, cracked mine with cinnamon juice. I have a tank that will fit I just need to cut it down.

Can you share what you used as a temp tank? I looked at some dc tanks and mc'd them out, but didn't spend the money to try them...

If memory serves, Les recommends 30mm width. I use 23-25mm.

I guess I'm going to have to break down eventually and join the forum Les is on. I've got my information from the VAPE forum in the UK that is a PIT, but I really should see for myself what the first-hand information from the man himself is.

D... it's gotten hard to discuss "obscure" mods since ECF has decided you can't mention other forums by name anymore

Reassembled the Orion with a new wick.
400 mesh 35mm X 20mm
4 wrap coil at 1.6 ohm and it did NOT POP!!
It’s working like I would expect a new coil / wick would and I look forward to letting it break in.
Thank gaud that I have a 50ft roll of kanthal and 2 full sheets of mesh!! I burned through at least 8 ft of wire this weekend.
Thank you for the suggestions, I really appreciate it.

Is everyone using the stock air hole in the v2 I'm thinking of adding another on the opposite side?
I like a tight draw but I don't think it's enough

How big is the stock intake? Mine's bored out to 1.2mm and produces vapour like it's running at 6v. You might try just opening up the stock intake first...

Also have 6mm mouthpiece and 3mm wick/filler holes. Original owner did a fabulous job machining it, I just wish he hadn't had a fetish for high polish

Not sure stock diameter, just for a test I pulled on the air hole instead on the mouth piece, I got tons of vapor and of course juice in my mouth.
Thanks for the info.
Well my tank has had it, it lost all juice overnight, ill see what I have besides the Bella tanks and I'll report back.
