Kanza, I work right across the street from the Sprint campus.

I don't know, like Nancy said it's a big can of worms. You've got your people with different carrier love, you've got iPhone people, and you've got Android people. I have always had Samsung phones (except for the one before this which was a piece of junk) and I've loved them all. This phone (Samsung Galaxy S2) was easy to use right out of the box and is awesome. I looked when my contract was up and everyone was higher than T-Mobile. But we don't use a massive amount of minutes either so I guess that makes a difference too, what kind of plan you need.
We're all just probably making it harder for you.

Thanks Psych, yeah leaning towards verizon, lots of happy people I know have that carrier here.

Personally I have Verizon as well, and I love them. I droped like 3 calls in 2.5 years with them, or more. I am more then happy with them and I love what they have to offer.

For smart phones, my ex gf's sister had a droid and loved it, I had a few blackberries and hate them, and I know people with Iphones and love them.

Now, you should be aware that the smart phone battery life sucks horribly, they last for maybe 4 hours with a small amount of texting/talking. My blackberry died after 3 or so hours. I am currently using a "dumb phone" and I love it so much more, no data plan.

For Verizon, unlimited internet/text and 450 minutes will run you close to 100 bucks, BUT they may have a promotion still going to combine data and text to drop it to 80 or so.

I have a crappy old flip phone,But my son broke his Blackberry and I got the iphone 3 free when I renewed my contract and he loves it.Its not the newest one,but it was free because its the older model. He likes it a lot better than the Blackberry. Thats all i have to say.

I used the Iphone, and I can say that they are better then any blackberry. The Iphone 3 is a great phone, and the battery lasts a little longer then blackberries. I had the blackberry curve line from the sprint one.,. I forgot, the 3350? To the next one, and then the 3g. They all were horrible with battery life, so I got an extended battery, customized my otterbox case to fit it, and it worked ok... The thing kept restarting after a year or two, and the boot up cycle is about 5 or 10 minutes if I remember. That is a battery pull not a turn off/on

I'm a verizon person, based strictly on coverage -- AT&T signal reeks at our home, though I know it is good in many places.

Personally I like Android, using a Droid X now, probably upgrade in the near future. I use it constantly, browser, Tapatalk, calculator, FTP,electronic banking/payments, KeePass password manager.

I have a Droid Pro. I pay 80 bucks a month. Unlimited talk and text to anyone with a Verizon Cell phone (which is most people I know). I think 500 text messages and a certain amount of minutes....unlimited internet

access.

Thats alot nowdays Kimmy .we had family plan for not much more then that with 1000 shared min ,unlimited text and data soooo...it depends on if youre going to buy outright or not .Were buying this time and my plan will only be 35 per month with plenty of min for me as i am not a phone talker ,on a no contract basis ,with unlimited data and text .I am sick of contracts . If things get tough ,your stuck .
If you talk alot then i know you need more minutes .

Ok, time for me to thow in my 2 cents worth...

I have had many friends and family that have had the Iphone and went to the android, and they all swear they will never go back. I have one friend who went the opposite way, so i guess that just comes down to a matter of preferance. I strongly prefer the android.

I previously had cingular, which was then eaten by At&t. Once at&t took it over it all went downhill quickly. Customer service sucked, cell service sucked, everything. I got out of At&t and went to sprint about 3 years ago. I have always had great reception, (except in a few buildings that seemed to block service for all carriers.) but the BEST part to Sprint has been the customer service. My view is that no matter what provider you choose or phone you choose, you will have an issue at some point. Billing, technical whatever. If the customer service is good, you can work through the issue quickly and easily and that is what has always beeen important to me.

As far as phone brand, it will depend on whats available in youre area and provider. In the past i have had samsung and nokia phones and the biggest problems i had was it crapping out a lot sooner than it should have. I switched to HTC and I'm not going to go back to anything else again. I have been over joyed with HTC. (HTC Evo Shift)

If you're still considering Verizon, I strongly recommend the Casio Commando. Shockproof, waterproof, dustproof, and Android. I haven't had any reason to complain for 6 months now, and the Casio line of phones have been great to me over the years.

But then you are stuck with android 2.1 and a phone with little to no development going on.

My hubby has decided i cant handle a pay as you go plan with only 100 min lol :) I dont talk that much on phone but i do make appts and such with it and if i talk for a fast few calls to friends i dont get to see due to distance ,that would eat up 100 min in no time ...so he says i'm better off getting the phone of my choice and re-up with unlimited text and data and 1000 min for 70 per month .And yes my choice is a phone with Android .We are not an apple household .
p.s. I like others checked all in my area tmobile in no cali still remains the cheapest .I havent had a dropped call in years .

So I've had my little samsung phone from Metro for awhile and I like the no contract, 45$ a month deal, but I'm looking to upgrade. Have 2 co-workers at work help me out with customers questions that I was stumped on, and bam! they were able to answer thanks to their phones.
So all of you folks that love your smartiepants phones (and plans *gulp*) I would love to hear your opinions!
I've become burned out looking at all the reviews on Cnet, too much info to process, TIA :)

Last year I dropped Verizon postpaid (after 16 years) for T-Mo prepaid . To upgrade my four year old razr (and finally have internet) would have meant a more expensive plan, and another 24 months of ransom at approximately 100 bucks a month, just to get a free phone.

Looking at the prepaid carriers' monthly fees (for unlimited everything, no less) I knew I didn't have to pay that much and still have an android phone. I chose the $50 unlimited prepaid plan. I spent 150. on a new smartphone, so I broke even in three months. I actually pay less than 50 because I buy a PIN online with a coupon code discount and no sales tax, either.

You went Metro, so you already know the benefits of prepaid, and owning your phone outright, but coverage is the utmost important factor in all of this, so look at the coverage maps before you look at plans or phones. Make sure you view the prepaid voice/text/data coverage map and not the postpaid one for the "big 4". Crunch numbers and check plans on myrateplan dot com.

If you dig frugality, PagePlus prepaid cellular is not well known but they use Verizon towers and you can use any non-prepaid Verizon branded phone (not currently in service, with clean ESN) that isn't an iPhone or 4G phone. Pretty decent coverage in your state. Yes, they are on FB.

Ok I don't have 4G but I am happy with my 3G service from Boost Mobile. Running my cheap Samsung galaxy prevail on gingerbread. Started at $50/month unlimited everything. Now paying $45 and it will keep dropping $5 every six months until it gets down to $35/month. Unlimited everything. Cheap way to go and there are ways to get a better phone like the Evo flashed to boost. Something to think about.
