The thing the family has to try an understand is that you are not smoking tobacco - that is, you are not burning a dried plant to inhale the smoke. Nor is there any noxious smoke being given out.

You are vaping - say it loud and proud - you are heating a liquid and inhaling the vapor from it. There is no burning and the only product of the heated liquid is a water-based vapor.

:vapor:
good luck!

Ok i'm an out door smoker since i'm the only smoker in my household and I have an ecig on order. But my question was with an ecig will i still have to go outside to smoke?
I hate having to go outside but I do it for my family and i'm hoping with an ecig I can stay indoors

I was always an outdoor smoker, both for me and for the family. I can't stand the smell of stale cigarette smoke - never could. I vape indoors all the time - I'm vaping as I type this, and I'm sitting on the couch in the family room. The only reaction I've gotten is asking me what flavor I'm vaping because it smells so good. I prefer dessert-style flavors, like Cinnamon Roll and Apple Pie.

Explain to them that what you exhale is only water vapor just like a vaporizer. No second hand smoke or smell in the house. The e-cigs don't have all the bad stuff that cigs do. I forget for sure, but a cig has like 300 to 400 hundred chemicals that you inhale that you don't have with e-cigs. Blow the vapor on the lens of someones glasses and watch it evaporate with no residue left behind. Blow the vapor thru a tissue and see its still perfectly white. Do the with a cig. and its nasty looking.

Having recently re-located to New England, I can tell you that the ability to "vape" indoors was a draw!

The vapor doesn't have any of the side-effects of second hand smoke and it does not have the disgusting odor associated with tobacco smoke.

My wife and I are quite OCD about our vehicles and I happily vape in the car with no ill effects, not just from the smell but none of the "film" residue associated with tobacco.

I also now vape at work in the comfort of my office. The only effect is that one of my co-workers noted my office smells better since I tend to vape apple and cinnamon flavors (NEVER allowed to smoke in the building). Very subtle but enough to notice- in a positive way!

...and nicotine, PG, VG, and possibly PEG or ethylene glycol, plus flavors, etc. Mainly though, how do I answer to the secondhand nicotine issue? Some people (like SWMBO) mistakenly think nicotine is the worst component in tobacco smoke. :/ How much nicotine am I actually releasing into the surrounding air?

I have read around here people saying something like 2% of the nicotine content is exhaled, but really I don't think this is known. I still don't vape right next to people who are non smokers, even if there is no nicotine, people who don't smoke likely will not appreciate the exhaled vapor regardless of what is in it.

It's been measurable as a very small amount, and nicotine (a naturally occurring substance) degrades very quickly when exposed to air. The tobacco companies did a report about it in strengths used as insecticide - way, WAY stronger than anything we'd be vaping - and it said the stuff lasted longest in liquid, but in air it degraded in about an hour.

Here's a lab report on one brand of ecig where the inhaled and exhaled vapor was analyzed and recorded. If you look at the bar graph in the first section of the report, you will see that an ecig delivers only a small fraction of the nicotine as a tobacco cigarette. The report goes on to reveal that the inhaled vapor is comparable to that of a prescription nicotine inhaler. Other reports show that most of the nicotine is absorbed by the mucous membranes in the mouth and nasal cavity and little nicotine or vapor is absorbed in the lungs.

As you read in the report there is very little nicotine compared to a cig. Not even close and very little, close to nothing would be exhaled. They put PG in inhallers, and VG is food grade and is in a lot of stuff like cake icing and batters, candy and I don't know how many other everyday things we use. It is also used in fog machines so if it bad stay away from concerts. LOL IMHO tar is the lung killer along with all the other chemicals that a burning cig gives up and nicotine is just habit forming. Ask a Doctor if a nicotine patch or nicotine gum would give you lung cancer, I doubt it very seriously.

I was an outdoor smoker too. Never smoked in the house or our car. So for me vaping indoors and in the car was wow! I like this. My hubby non smoker, non vaper, does not complain at all. He may ask what is that smell or flavor but he says it is not a problem for him at all. He was always on me about quiting smoking so he is not complaining- ha ha bnrk
