cheers
Actually Brock I was providing one of many possible answers to konaoneil's question about why people are stacking batteries when LR atties are available. I was not looking for advice on where to buy low resistance atties and a debate into their longevity but since your offering please do post a link to a vender that offers LR 510 atties that consitently last 3 plus more months I'm sure others would be interested.

trying to argue with you I'm not, young skywalker..

I wasn't trying to give advice as to where you can get LR 510's that last 3+ months or debate their longevity. I was merely asking what kind you had. I've heard both good and bad about the LR's. I prersonally only use cartomizers. I got tired of the atomizer game long ago. Way to much attention and mess for me to fool with. Even some of the LR cartomizers I've tried are crap.. With all the leaps and bounds in battery technology, the herbie seems to be with the atomizers / cartomizers.
I do have LR carts that I can run for a couple of weeks and then I throw them out. Not because they're bad, just because they're a couple of weeks old...

I'm not so much in for the longevity as I am the quality..
I'd much rather have a pint of 12yr old Weller than a gallon of JW Dant.

Low resistance atomizers are now common as are batteries that will properly yield and sustain the desired current to drive them. With these tools in hand, why are many here still interested in running batteries in series? Am I correct that we would all agree that use of stacked batteries is inherently less safe than use of a single battery? Please understand, I'm not being critical. I truly do want to know.

I've chosen to go the LR route instead of the HV route exactly for that reason. I haven't used my 5v passthru in a while now.

BTW (though slightly off topic): My AW IMR14500s came in from Hong Kong yesterday. Used with a 2 ohm BE112 in my Super6, this combination makes for as vivid and intense an experience as I need. For those planning to use these batteries with their S6's; get out your screwdrivers. These IMRs are VERY short.

Excellent! I've got one of those 2 ohm BE112s on deck for when my current SLB 2 ohm 801 quits on me... running them on an AW IMR16340... vivid... good word choice.

+1

what cartomizers do you use brock?
I tried the kr808d1 cartomizers and personally wasn't a big fan.
But I do I want to try some others.

Right now I'm using the Premium carts from V4L.
I don't think their as LR as some of the others out there so it doesn't develop the burnt taste so quickly.. Still has that sizzle, just not as hot..

Running them on the IMR 16340's and the T1 (soon to be 16340 Precise).
So far so good.

The end switch assembly is, for all practical purposes, sealed from the battery, so a vent anywhere below the switch assembly would be ineffective. I had a couple of requests to put vent holes just above the switch (at the bottom of the battery) which i'm going to do, so if you want it, i could do that. With an AW protected 18650 or similar battery, vent holes are probably over kill. Personally, i like the clean look of no vent holes on the Precise, but it's a personal opinion.

thanks,

i'll skip the vent holes. just using the one battery for this mod.

Shorter than the regular 14500's or shorter than the protected 14500's?

I use the 16340 IMR's with LR cartomizers and I cannot imagine them at 5, 6 or even 7 volts... They're more than enough for me...

There are people getting much better performance out of the LR's than that..
Could it be the brand or where you're getting them from?

Sorry about my delayed response. Life intrudes....

They're even shorter than the unprotected ones. Worth the hassle though. I'm going to ask Andrew if he can make them longer when he revs the product. Might give us a few more mah as well.

Thanks for the input on HV. Gives me some insight into how others are using these things. In person, the only input I get is from local smokers I've converted by getting them basic kits.

Re LRs short life: I think it may have a fair amount to do with stability of the power source. Driving a 1.5 ohm load is a damn iffy proposition. Even when you design for it, at some point your power source thinks its trying to drive a straight wire and complains in the only way it knows how. I think it would be interesting to do some time based measurements driving low impedances with the various types of Li batteries.

Are vent holes easy enough to do yourself, will it compromise the device where its machined so thin? Can I pay you a little extra to have some added David? I want to use mine @6volt but there is not alot of selection for protected cr123as at 3 volt so i've ordered the 3volts at 1000mah unprotected.

Hello dk2,

I am ONE of those that requested (3) .125 dia. equally spaced Vent holes at a 30 degree back angle (down angle) in my NEW 18650.

Now even though I plan on using the BEST quality batteries (AW being the current latest and greatest (until someone else comes along tooting their horn as the best?) for the BEST possible SAFETY I can currently obtain!

Each one has their own level of perceived SAFETY? Follow your own as to WHAT IS YOURS?

Mine IS and ALWAYS always has been an over-engineered product no matter WHAT I review to purchase in any product that has or can be made to have a ASAP (AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE) end result!! It IS my fellow beings around me that come first, that I am most concerned about with any potential problems that could arise? I sure would NOT want the guilt that I have not tried to at least insure a SAFE and SECURE environment about me, even if it is one in a million as to the risk involved.

That One In A Million could be any one of Us!

I agree, hence I ordered my P18 which I got last week the same way
