He raises some good points about the possible twisty road for this law. Guess time will tell if we've panicked for nothin'....hope so, but not holding my breath. Good to see some action, though. I was afraid vendors may rollover to unquestioning compliance or just simply shut down. I guess that shows the fortitude of the folks we do business with ;).

Northerner has announced they will be complying with the PACT act effective June 29. There is some discussion as to why they are dropping some lines of snus.

SnusOn.com - Snus Forum :: View topic - Northerner.com will sell in USA but will follow the Pact Act

Dear folks!

Just want to announce that Northerner.com will follow the Pact Act and the FDA new requirements. It will be implemented on the 29th of June.

It means we will continue shipping out US orders from our warehouse in Orefield, Pennsylvania.

We will have to add the local state tobacco tax, add online age verification to the check out and ship with UPS only. The positive thing is that our customers will get their orders quicker with UPS and since we are based in the USA - the UPS shipping costs will not be that high - compared to shipping from Sweden.

The numbers of brands we will be able to offer will decrese due to the new FDA requirements. We will continue to offer all brands from Swedish Match, Skruf, V2 and some from Gotlandssnus and TillCe. We will not be able to offer any brands from the other suppliers - JTI, BAT, Gellivare and Gajane.

Many of our customers will probably buy from online Swedish retailers that will not follow the Pact Act but we are pretty sure the US custom eventually (3-6 months) will intervene with their sales so that they will have to follow the Pact Act or not sell at all to the US.

What are your thoughts about it? Do you think the US custom will just let snus orders from Sweden passing through - without proper tax and age verified?

Wish you a Happy Easter!

Sincerely,
Frank

This is going to take a long time to sort out. I'm going to try and stay with what I know as opposed to what I think I might know... kind of.... sort of.... I heard a rumor... as so and so says....

I donno. But I do know I'll have at least a years worth in the deep freeze by June 29. I'll wait and see how it plays out after that.

Yep about the way I look at it also. about 1-3 years stocked and a good 10 year snuff horde.

Ill be damned if I am spending 3 buck a can on tax.

Shuffling the latest from Northerner over here from the snuson forum. Hope Frank doesn't mind

The reason why we have to limit the brand selection is that by the 22nd of June, FDA requirements says that ALL tobacco brands sold in the US should be registered at the FDA - the manufacturer should send an ingredient list and register all their brands. The only manufacturer that have done so are; Swedish Match, Skruf/Imperial, Gotlandssnus, V2 and TillCe. I have contacted both JTI and BAT several times and they told me that they have no intention of register their brands in the US because of possible conflicts with their US organizations. Gellivare never even replied to my request. Gajane might do it but have not given any more information when it will be done.

I will contact a lawyer in Washington and the American Trade Department at the US Embassy in Stockholm on Tuesday in next week and ask them to contact the FDA for a request if we as a Swedish company with a US subsidy have to follow the Pact Act.

We just want to look into the future where we don't break the law, I personal wouldn't be able to sleep otherwise.

Happy Easter folks!

So it appears there are reasons for dropping some snus lines. Oden's is made by Gajane so there may still be hope for that one. Oomph is made by TillCe so that looks okay but hasn't shown up as of yet in the US Northerner warehouse. I would certainly miss Oden's kanel if that gets dropped.
