Anybody got a line on a reliable US supplier of Panasonic 18650s? Looking for either the 3100 or 3400 mAh versions for use in a regulated mod.
Both above models (made by both Panasonic and Orbronic) are not high-drain batteries. These are hybrid batteries whose chemistry is heavily weighted to the ICR side of battery chemistry. Their continuous discharge rate is only 6.8 amps, where all 18650 high drain batteries have at the least 10 amps continuous discharge rate. They have a high internal resistance just as ICR protected batteries have. These two models essentually are ICR Li-Ion batteries in practice. These batteries will "work" in a regulated mod, but they are not the ideal battery for a variable voltage mod. These are best suited for low drain applications like flashlights.

Regulated mods use buck boost circuitry and pulse width modulation to increase the voltage output of 3.7 volt batteries. To do this, the processor may pull up to 9 amps from the battery, which is more than the above Panny's have. Therefore, a high-drain battery should be used for best performance.

Technical: Why High Drain Batteries?

Question for the tech engineers at Provape

The best battery for a regulated mod presently are the Panasonic NCR18650PF or PD 2900mAh batteries. These are high drain hybrid batteries with 10 amps continuous discharge rating and a low resistance rating that will allow a regulated mod to perform as the manufacturer designed it to. If you want the best performance and the highest mAh rating for your regulated mod, these are the ones.

Choose the batteries that you use in your mods wisely according to the application you'll be using them. There's more to picking batteries than just choosing the battery with the highest mAh rating.
