Hi everyone, i just started vape yesterday. i am a pack/day American spirit/marlboro light smoker. i also have a very sensitive nervous system so instead of starting at 16 mg ejuice i got the 8 mg. Everything was pretty good all day yesterday, only had 1 real ciggy during the day and vaped the rest then came evening and all of a sudden panic set in and racing heart/ringing ears. i started to freak and had to take a "deep breath" to calm myself. Well now it's morning and i am afraid to vape again. i just had a real ciggy and it tastes like crap and i want to use my vape however i do not want to experience what i did last night. Do you think the 8mg is too high for me? Should i go get the 6mg? Or even lower? I want to quit smoking but do not want to deal with panic/ringing ears again. Please advise me, thanks.

Hi

That's scary. I tend to get wired and have ringing in my ears if I get too much nic, especially if I've had coffee. How much did you vape? Did you have any coffee or other stimulants during the day? What about other medications it might be reacting with? (DON'T post anything about meds you might be on, interaction is just something to consider. I highly recommend never to post about specific medical history or medications anywhere on the internet, once it's online it's online forever, and ECF is heavily indexed by search engines.)

ETA: The prior poster mentioned a panic attack from craving nic, which might me true as well, it depends on the person.

ETAA: :) I need to think more before posting. I smoked 1.5 packs a day and started at 12mg, since I hadn't found the forum yet and figured that was in the middle. I chain-vape, so even though I probably should have started higher because of how much I smoked, 12mg was fine for me.

I am on no medications and yes i had 2 cups of coffee yesterday. i vaped a lot because i didnt want to smoke real ciggs. i am tending to think that i had too much nicotine in my system and was experiencing the effects from it. If someone has a sensitive nervous system can we safely vape?

If you're vaping a lot, you should probably lower the nic. There's no rule about only vaping one level. I have everything from 0mg to 18mg. If I feel like I'm craving, I might vape a higher level for awhile, then later, especially in the evening go down.

Hello Gianna. Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your distress. I don't have any medical advice for you except perhaps to consult your doctor.

Out of curiosity, what were you doing at the time? Did it come on all of a sudden while you were sitting minding your own business? Did it happen shortly after eating your evening meal? Was anything stressful happening that did not happen earlier in the day?

Hi Gianna and welcome to ECF.

Not a Dr but I believe either your nic level is too low and thus you vaped too much. Could also be too high but I'm leaning towards the nic level being too low because of the ringing ear issue. It's been reported that by some when they vaped constantly the pressure in the ears gets messed up and can cause the ringing (vaping suction).
If someone has a sensitive nervous system can we safely vape?
The effect of nicotine can vary from person to person. For some it's a relaxant and for others it's a stimulant- sounds like you're in the latter category and could be nic OD because of the amount vaped.
I always recommend to new vapers a visit to the Dr. when starting. Doesn't matter whether they support your efforts or not but always a good idea to inform them of your decision.

If we know how many ml you vaped the entire day we might be able to tell you if the nic level is too low or too high. If the nic is too low we chain vape causing nic od and if it's too high we experience nic od.

What happened to you is extremely unusual, and I suspect it has nothing to do with vaping.
Regardless, 8mg is considered really low, and most people start with much higher strengths than that.

But it's hard to give any advice when we don't know...
--How much you used to smoke
--How many milliliters of 8mg you vaped

This EXACT issue made me quit vaping my first time around. 11mg would make me high as a kite and my face all red and at night I'd get awful insomnia, pounding heart and pounding heartbeat sound in my ears.

Now I only vape 6mg, I'm fine.

I'm No Doctor, But To Me It Sounds Like You Need A Higher Nicotine Content To Help With Your Cravings And Anxiety. Some Better Information Will Be Here Shortly.

I am prone to anxiety like the Op and can assure you it's highly likely the last thing a Highly Sensitive Indiviual (HSI - wiki it - the new medical term for 'neurotic') needs is higher nic content.

Try 6mg and don't chain vape and see how you get on??

My health has no price and many times I pay out of my own pocket. Most outside of Canada believe we have a wonderful healthcare system but have no idea of the reality. Yes we live in igloos :D
3 weeks ago I paid about $2k for a few visits to a specialist.

Sadly we have moved/ are moving to a 2 tier healthcare system. My GP has a separate Private Care office/ business. Retired Mom has to pay for most of her Meds as the Govt approved stuff is not quality. Was told by surgeon last Fall 2012 I needed surgery- date finally arrived in late July 2013. No it's not the worst but is quickly going downhill. For myself not a big deal but I feel for Seniors and those on a fixed income.

Oh Believe me I know about the Canadian healthcare system. I have a ton of family in Alberta.

One was in a horriffic car crash about 8 years ago. Car rolled 7 times she was lucky to live. If her father had been unable to pay for a wheelchair out of pocket she would have had to wait 3 years for one. SHe relearned to walk in a year and half. :p

This might interest you. A friend's wife in the U.S. needed surgery. Cost was 100k. She ended up going to India and paid 17k. The Private Clinic/ Hospital was spotless, fresh flowers every couple days, fantastic food, U.S. educated Surgeons, one on one nurse to patient care. After a few days she was sent to a Spa with therapy for 2 weeks. She recovered completely and her and the husband couldn't say enuff good things about the people, care and service she received.
Just something to consider as some of my American friends have told me their personal stories regarding the cost of healthcare in the U.S.

I have all of the symptoms you described, especially ringing in the ears light panic attacks and rapid heartbeat whenever I OD (Over Do) nicotine. It should not last too long if that is all you are experiencing. Just back off vaping so much and see if things settle down. If not, it would be a good idea to talk to your doc.

Hi welcome to vaping! The same think happened to me, it was exactly what you said, overvaped ! Its just learning how much your body will allow before it gets you a little shaky. That's how I know to slow down on the vape, when I start feeling a little shaky. Also, make sure you are drinking way more water (vaping is dehydrating). When I don't drink enough water I get ms. cramps and more shakies!!! Your body will let you know.
