I know I have been here long enough that I should know the answer to this, but I have always been curious about pass-throughs.

Is it worth it for me (an Ego owner) to purchase a pass-through? I know that a pass-through is essentially a battery charging device that allows you to vape during charge (which I don't need), but isn't there also an added advantage of owning essentially a 5v "mod," so to speak, without spending the big bucks on it? If so, can you buy the pass-through without buying batteries as well?

Yes! I would say it is definatly worth investing in one. Make sure that it is indeed a 5v passthrough though. There are many that are regulated to 3.7v either via an inline battery or internal circuit. I recommend the 5v passthrough from either MadVapes or LiteCigUSA (listed as HV Passthrough). These are an inexpensive way to experience 5v vaping without purchasing a big mod. They only function while plugged in, but if you are sitting at your PC or in the car (with the right adapter) why waste a battery charge? I personally own a 3.7v and a (now dead) 5v. I am just about to begin building a new 5v passthrough box mod as the one i purchased a long time ago got chewed up by the in-laws puppy. At least it wasnt plugged in at the time, but then again if it had been it would have been instant karma :D

My USB passthrough helped me get through my first couple of months. The voltage is a bit stronger and consistent and if something does start to go wrong, at least you know it's not the battery. For a while, at night while I watched TV I'd have my lap top plugged in, sitting on my end table and I'd be plugged into it. I felt a little silly, but at least I wasn't smoking.

Ditto on the 5v with a carto or LR. I spend a lot of time on my PC and the 5v 510 USB passthru with a LR atty allowed me to sell all my extra mods.

I thought you weren't advised to use LR attys with a 5v PT? How much of a difference than regular attys to you? Do you know by chance the equivalent voltage with a mod? I would love to see what vaping at 6 or 7v is like without buying a mod first. :toast:

My 5V Pt won't even let me try an lr atty on it. Just blinks and won't work.

It's a secret!
HA!

I was just coming here to ask the same question.

I have been very frustrated with vaping for a little while now...all the fuss with carts or removing carts to drip...then I tried a mod I saw in the modders forum. Took a cart condom, cut a hole in the tip and used it to drip...WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I see now why these drip tips are so popular.

So I'm thinking now that a passthrough may be the best option for me since it'll give me 5v vaping for less money, and I'll get a drip tip. But I need to add on a couple questions...

1) Do I need a specific type of adapter to use a passthrough in my car?

2) Can I use a passthrough with a USB Wall adapter?

Thanks!

Here's what I use. I have 3 808 PT's from HG. One went out after the first month. I removed the USB cable from it and used the cable on a box mod I built. Works great so I don't know if I'll ever use the other PT's (I will probably give the box mod to my brother this week) but i have several usb charger cables to make another with. Long ago I ordered 2 cig lighter adapters from deal extreme (1000mA Car Cigarette Powered USB Adapter/Charger DC 12V/24V Item# 34040) . They work great. At the same time I ordered 2ea 1300 ma wall adapters from them. They don't work. My meter shows output of about 250ma. The wall adapter from Welcome to MadVapes LLC works great. I am waiting on one from deal extreme now to test USB Travel AC Power Adapter/Charger for Apple iPad (110~220V/US Plug) Item# 39314
