Man, what a situation. We love our animals, we love to vape........ but in this situation, I would defer to the animals. They don't have a choice. We do.

I'm not saying that to be arrogant or cocky or anything, but if my piggies started acting wonky because of my vaping... I'd make the sacrifice and not vape around them directly and/or modify my vaping behavior.

Like Vwls said (nice name by the way), you make an oath when you buy an animal to make sure it's life is better than it could be elsewhere. And if that means sacrifices, you sacrifice. Just like kids. There have been many times where I only had fifteen bucks to my name. Fifteen bucks was a quarter tank of gas and a six-pack o' beer. But for the piggies, it was red/green leaf lettuce, cilantro, green peppers, apples, and a whole bunch of hay and pellets and bedding. Yes, in those times, the piggies came first.

Speaking of our pets coming first...We had a huge iguana named Sunkist in a 5 foot tall cage in my son's room that basically had my son's room to himself and he would sun himself under his sun lamp on top of this tree limb we had hanging right above his cage. He was a super nice iquana but I was always scared of him anyways. lol. I always made sure my son kept his bedroom door shut when the iquana was out of his cage for the afternoon. I mean he was longer in length than my arm is. One night I went to bed and when I woke up the next morning, there was a Sunkist dropping on the floor right by my bed. OMG! I almost had a heart attack. That iquana must have been in my room and crawled right up to the edge of my bed. Of course, I don't even want to think of whether he climbed up onto my bed. Anyhow, that iguana eventually was out in a screened in patio out back for one afternoon and got out, never to be seen again. My son was devastated. I, on the other hand, was sort of relieved. lol. And not to stray too far from what I was going to say but even though I didn't like that iguana, I would buy all these expensive vegetables that were supposed to be good for him and put them in the food processor and keep them in individual baggies in the freezer. What a pain in the ..... lol.

Absolutly. Good for you, Vwls and the others. Animals first. I have to say that Your piggies got a salad even I would crave. :) Ya, I do remember doing the same thing back when times were tough. I did manage to keep a bag of Purina for the kitty. ( not the best food but not the worst)

This week I started vaping in the house (before that I was only doing it outside). The cat flees from me when I do this. At first I thought she was just scared (I didn't smoke indoors, either, so she's not used to me blowing clouds), but now I think it's a physiological reaction: She's started overgrooming, as some cats do when they have an allergy. Nothing else in our lives, as far as I am aware, has changed. She's eating the same food, sleeping on the same furniture, playing with the same toys, etc.

Has anyone heard about cats or other pets reacting negatively to vaping? If your pet did, what did you do about it?
...

Excessive grooming is an extremely common stress reaction so your first instinct that your cat is fearful of the clouds may well be correct. When you are vaping pointedly ignore your cat as paying any attention whatsoever to fearful behavior validates the fear in your cat's mind. Also, make sure that your cat has ample "safe harbor" places on which to perch and handy escape routes from the clouds.

If the issue is fear rather than allergies it can be dealt with by counter-conditioning. Walk into a room where the cat is and take a quick vape, blow a big cloud away from the cat and toss the cat a treat that he or she adores. Put the PV away immediately. Don't give the cat that particular treat at any other time. Repeat a five or six times a day.

Once the cat starts anticipating the treat rather than moving away from the cloud blow two or three clouds before tossing the treat. If your cat shows fear go back to blowing a single cloud for awhile.

After your cat seems comfortable with two or three clouds sit down and vape where your cat can see you but a good distance away. Vape and toss treats to the cat every 30 seconds to a minute or so. Over time your cat's fear of clouds will diminish. At that point start tossing the treats closer to you and farther away from your cat.

Once your cat is comfortable with vaping start reducing the number of treats over time and eventually phase them out.

well, I think my dog was addicted to the second hand smoke from my fiance's cigars so when we started vaping he wigged out. Then one day I was blowing out the vapor and he walked right through it, He stopped and his eyes got really big and he just stood there sniffing. Me and my fiance about fell out of our chairs laughing about it. Every time that happens he does the same thing its hilarious

I've opened the windows to air out the house and I'm thinking I may wash the cat and give her an antihistamine (her vet has cat-specific recommendations on the clinic website).

I might have to continue vaping outdoors. Fortunately for me, I've always enjoyed periodic breaks outdoors-- that was not something I disliked about smoking!

My cat tries to eat the steam when I use a catnip tea liquid. So opposite here.

Its just the opposite in my house. The cats hated smoke and I used that in fact when I wanted some peace. I would just pick up my smokes pack and they would scatter. Now, vaping, they're attracted to it which I don't like. I don't want them around my vape because of the PG content so have to ward them off when I vape. I don't really believe PG is a big deal but I'm just a scaredy cat. ;-)

I can confirm this. My cat only goes into lick mode when he's getting fussed at for doing something he knows he shouldn't have. Or, that he should have known that he shouldn't have.

He has five modes. Eat, sleep, play, MURDER and trouble.

He only gets fussed at for one of'em.

Vet is convinced it's an allergy. Gave the cat some antihistamines, aired out the house, vaping outside, everything has returned to normal. Or it will be normal once the cat's fur grows back in. :)
So the cat did have an allergy and has recovered completely. Thankfully the cat's allergy, as I have mentioned elsewhere, turned out not to be related to vaping. Whew.

What's ironic is that I appear to be developing symptoms of sensitivity to an ingredient (or ingredients) in my juices. I'm mixing up some juices now that will allow me to run some challenge tests on myself and figure out which ingredient is the culprit so I can continue vaping without the offending ingredient.

Meanwhile, kitty is just fine. :)

Allergies suck. I know, I’ve got a bunch of them including being allergic to the dog but I’m not giving up pets. I’d rather die.

I hope you get it figured out and under control soon. I think I have a mild allergy to an ingredient in some juices. Fine with one, not with another so it’s something with the flavoring. I hope for you it’s something easily avoidable.

I hear you. I'd rather die than give up pets, too. :)

Vaping 100% unflavored VG with 0mg nicotine causes no reaction, so I can probably rule out VG as the problem. At this point, PG is my primary suspect. Having smoked for 15+ years makes me doubt nicotine is suddenly the issue, though I will test 100% unflavored VG + nicotine. Could still be a common flavoring or sweetener, though, not necessarily PG.
