I noticed that the ejuice I was about to order I could choose the ratio of pg to vg. What's considered the best or is it just personal preference?

Personal preference, mostly. PG is thin, carries flavour well, but is a little anemic when it comes to vapor. VG is thicker, produces much better vapour, is a bit sweeter, but can dull the flavour somewhat. Most people like a mix, somewhere between 20/80 PG/VG and 50/50 PG/VG. Some like mostly or all VG, too. Keep in mind as well that thicker liquids may not wick well in some cartomizers, and they don't do well in tank systems, either.

A Blend. You live in the US where there are dozens of juice makers. You don't have to vape 100% PG or 100% VG (what is usually offered in Chinese juices). If you are buying your first kit and need to buy juice to come with it, mostly PG and a small bottle of VG juice?

PG is thin, lets through the most flavor and the most of nicotine's TH and irritation, makes thinner looking vapor
VG is thick, dulls/smooths everything PG lets through, makes thicker more persistent vapor

Atomizers - use any ratio you want as long as it is not so thick that is wicks slower that you vape it. Juices that leave a lot of flavoring sediment may gunk up atomizers faster

Stuffing cartomizers - I get the longest good performance out pf my cartos with 20% or less VG i clear light juices (or any juice that leaves little or no flavoring sediment)

Reservoir cartos and tanks - These like 20-30% VG, may be ablle to use a bit higher VG if the vendor thins his VG juices, 100% PG may me more apt to leak

I remember when I got my Riva 510 and tried my regular juice it was a whole lot of nothing. My excitement faded pretty fast. But then I tried a Boge low res. carto along with some other juice that had been sitting around and wow, whole new world. So, for me, it was finding the right combination of items to suit your preference.

Also found sweet flavors like watermelon worked better with PG (or PG/VG mix). Standard flavors like menthol or tobacco work better for me in VG.

+1. Mindfield hit it right on the head except the 20/80 should have been 80/20 PG/VG.

Doh! Digital lysdexia strikes again. :) Yes, that is correct, 80/20 PG/VG.

I should also have pointed out that PG offers the best throat hit, while VG is a little light on TH unless it has been thinned with PGA. A mix of PG/VG tends to offer a good compromise between the good TH and flavour of PG and the thicker vapor of VG. I like 20-30% VG myself -- but I can't go too high on VG because the density of the vapor tends to make me cough. (Although that may also be an artifact of my years of smoking sensitizing my lungs; that may actually go away at some point. I may try a higher VG concentration down the road and see if that's changed.)
