I'm home again, using some of the tips (mostly from yankeebobo)... I've got a new wick done (65mm 400 mesh) and some how i wrapped a 2.6 ohm coil... vaping at 2.9 volts until I know it's broken in good... So far no problems this time around...

And Moo, I still have to thank you for putting up with this "Problem Child"...

Congrats on getting it working. You should up that voltage now!

What setup of wraps and wires got you that 2.6?

To be honest, I can't remember if I used my 32 awg kanthal, or if I used what came with the Cobra... (and now i can't remember what gauge that was)

I was far from sober last night when i tried this again...

I'm not getting any hot spots on the coil, but the flavor just isn't there yet... I'm guessing it needs more time to break in? I'm still on the first fill right now.

I still have the fill screw out and it looks like i got about 7 wraps on the coil...

 ok. Break in will help. BUT.... that is a high Ohm reading and will NEED POWER! Check how many wraps you have there. If I'm a betting man, you can take out one coil at a time and lower that down to at least 2ohms. This is one reason I vape mine at ~1.5. I usually target between 1-1.5ohms on my setups because a mechanical mod with a stock battery will vape it best.

OR - jack the Vs up (provari, etc) until you find that sweet spot. You will likely find yourself at 5V or even higher for that coil. You'll eat battery life while you're at it. :)

This is the problem I'm having right now. No hot spots, wick seems to be wicking perfectly but no flavor. Can anybody tell me why?

It doesn't usually take too long for the flavor to come out.
How much liquid have you vaped through the set-up?

Not much. Maybe half a tank and I'm talking about the chinese knockoff not the Cobra but the principal is the same. I guess I need to vape it some more to see if the flavor improves.

I don't know if you've double checked your coils, but it's always a good idea.
When they get hot, they can move a little on their own, causing a slight hot-spot.
Any hot spot will kill the flavor...might not even taste burnt, but it burns the flavor, instead of vaporizing.

Yes, I've checked the coils. I can get a 10 - 15 sec burn a couple times in a row without hotspots. I'm using 28ga wire this time with 500 mesh. I wonder if the 28ga takes longer to break in than the 30 ga.

It'll take a tad longer to heat up. But what I find even more is that as the setup sits, and then you go to pick it up, it may take 3 or so good hits to get the "cold coil" going again. Have you tried a different wrap? Either try the 30g, or if you have 32g and want to keep the ohms low, twist the wires together and wrap that? I like either 32 in the cobra, or twisted 32 or 33 depending on flavor.

I use 28 on most everything. It just performs differently on the Cobra for me anyway with some juices. The one I have currently seems to get the giddy up better with twisted 32s. But my other Gennies? 28 ..... usually. Still depends on juice for me.

But does it take the heavier gage wire to break in longer.........

For all that are lacking flavor, are your wicks closed tight or open hole. Some believe that flavor is more pronounced with open hole. I happen to agree many times, depending on juice, flavor is brought out this way.
I have a small paper clip hole in cobra. Large paper clip hole in ac9. Pretty tight in DIDs.

Mine is a tight, no hole wrap but the more I use it the better the flavor is getting. After the first half tank with no flavor I put it away. Now that I've been vaping it again the flavor is getting better. I don't like that it takes that long to break in though.
