I'll have to check it out too. If it works, essentially the coils will oxidize the mesh anyway from heat transfer. I'll look tomorrow if I remember.
Without oxidizing it? I think you're about to find out what it's all not about haha
Please point me to a discussion talking about using non-oxidized wicks
Almightygod did a video on just torching and not oxidizing and it worked just fine. I've done it too and it worked fine until my wick dried up which has been my problem all along.
Please post the video. What did he torch? To my knowledge torching is part of the oxidation process to build up carbon.
I can't find it, sorry and I don't know what mesh he torched. I torched 400. I thought I saw a link to it in the 500 thread but I can't find it.
I started out with 66mm but eventually trimmed it down to about 54mm.That's a beauty to behold. Nice job.
What did you cut for a mesh size?
Oh and as for MG strength. When wife and I were on cartos, we were at 18-20mgs plus or minus. That QUICKLY dropped to 12.
Yeah, torching is what oxidizes the wick. The flame builds up a layer of carbon in the process.Almightygod did a video on just torching and not oxidizing and it worked just fine. I've done it too and it worked fine until my wick dried up which has been my problem all along.
So my current setup:
67mm #500 mesh (what's left after taking about 1/2in/13mm off the roll) rolled tight
28AWG, 7/6 wrapper silting in ~1 ohm
Vape at 3v on provari and kicked at 8W on my GGTS.
Juice is jojo's chocolate peppermint altoid with 12nic
No fill screw
We are at about 12 hours of actual vape time. I've been trying to exclusively vape this setup on two devices as mentioned. The flavor is awesome. The throat hit is great (some TH is provided by the flavor). The vapor is lot better than the 80mm setup.
I have LAYED this setup down for 15 minutes and walked away to make a cappuccino.no leaks. I've fired it for 15 seconds on mt GGTS (provari would cut off at set limit). At about 15 minutes, it leaked a couple drops of juice onto the napkin. With a cap on, this would be a non-issue. It would get vaped away.
I really believe allowing for that tiny amount if extra space around the wick in between the wick and hole along with the lack of a fill screw improves the wicking.
Well, couldn't figure out my wicking issue, but after vaping the tank down to about 1ml left it started wicking great again. Wicked great right up until the end. I vaped it dry this morning and decided to wait till later to refill. Glad I did, 'cos my new tank arrived shortly after

I'm guessing that my changes in wicking performance may have just been break-in side effects? Either way, I'll continue with this setup for another tank full before I consider rebuilding
I know, right? Moo, you guys did a great job with the tank. I didn't realize just how good the sandblasted designs look in person![]()
My new Caravela with quit date on it arrived today...
