It's most likely the heft comes from concrete inside the walls and door of the safe. The old "class 5" safes were lined with concrete. Back in the day, this was a common practice to enhance the security of the safe and to provide some fire protection.
I took the inside door panel off to see about changing the combo and it's solid concrete inside it...

You may not be able to change it. Some of those old safes came with a preset combination with absolutely no way to change it to something else without the assistance of a locksmith who specialized in those safes. There are ways to break in if you lose or forget the combination, but I'm not even sure if that training is available any more. I took a "class" many moons ago (it was a classified course) that showed you how to get into a safe if the combination was lost or forgotten (or if the locking mechanism went totally kaput). Once you broke into the safe, it lost its certification to store classified and you pretty much had to get rid of it.

For the past year or so, I've been reading about a new knife steel called MagnaCut. The more I read about it, the more I got intrigued and eventually decided I MUST have a knife using this new steel. (Read up on this steel here: https://knifesteelnerds.com/2021/03/25/cpm-magnacut/ )

There's just one teeny little catch. Knives using MagnaCut are not cheap. They're pricey as hell and I really couldn't justify the price for a new blade.

Then SOG jumped into the fray and recently came out with a blade using MagnaCut. Oh Oh... One of my favorite knife makers came out with a MagnaCut blade? Shut up and take my money!

This is NOT a knife that lends itself to EDC. It's a beast. It's big, it's in your face, it's..... OH MY GOD IT'S WONDERFUL!

And sharp! I tackled some cardboard yesterday (I know, I know, bad juju for a blade) but I had to test it. This thing was cutting through heavy duty cardboard with ease. And while a cheaper blade would immediately need some TLC on a stone afterwards, this thing didn't lose it's edge at all. I can see that I'm going to have to invest in a top notch sharpening system so I don't screw up the edge on this thing. That's OK, I've been needing one for some time now, and this is a perfect excuse to invest in one.

It's got some heft, but it's comfortable to hold. Again, this is a blade that doesn't really lend itself to EDC, but it's going to be an excellent duty blade.

I have the Primary Arms Compact PLxC 1-8x24 FFP. It's on an 18 inch barrel AR. That said at 1x it works pretty good for close quarters, 2 eyes open sight picture. It did take some getting used to the 1st focal plane sight pictures at different zoom levels. But over all I'm pleased with the scope. It's a really clear, crisp view through the lens.

I didn't have a 'spot' for an actual safe in the previous house. So, I settled for a Stack-On cabinet to be able to keep everything under lock and key. Last year when we moved to another house, I added the black cabinet to avoid the over crowded original green one. A safe would be nice to have as I now have 'room for one. But at this point in my life, I'll just stick with what I have.
I did some deep digging this morning and came across this:

A search of Cannon's website does show a Stack-On link to their website. Soooooooo, I fired off another message to Stack-On requesting how to purchase a product directly from them as there's no local retailers carrying their products.

Well how ‘bout that.

I bought my 1st one ages ago from a local gun shop. My 2nd one I got about a year ago on sale at a Tractor Supply near me.

Well well well. No reply from the company itself, but a "local" TSC does have 'em in stock. Well, sorta. Gotta order online, but I think I found what I need.

Not wild about the green, but as a combo deal, not too shabby. Time to really dig through their website and see what I can come up with.

Heh.. Digging will save me 10 bucks. Same setup, only in black and buying both separately. Thanks for the TSC tip. Forgot all about them and they are one of my favorite stores to spend money at.
Glad I gave a clue to help you out. My first one was a deep forest green ... I tried and tried to find that color again ... but no luck. So my 2nd one is black. I never run across the 'weird' green combo you linked to.

I'm happy with mine ... not fire safes ... but for locking 'em up I'm quite satisfied with them for the price point.

Finally got a response from the company. Nope, they don't do direct sales, and they expect the customer to search for a company that will ship or find a local company willing to order. **sigh**

That really rubs me the wrong way. Yes, I really want to try the product and would love to find that double door cabinet like you have, but man....... From a customer service standpoint, that really made me step back and question whether they're in it for the long haul or not. Maybe I'll take a drive out to Mesquite next weekend and have a talk with their staff to see if they'd be willing to do a special order for me.

Man that sucks. Took me awhile to see your post yet alone reply. Just got released from the hospital - a really nasty case of double pneumonia.
