For you 1911 owners. I finally broke mine down, cleaned it up, and started putting it back together. For the life of me, I can not get the slide stop to go back into place. It's catching on something and I'm growing extremely frustrated. It's not the indent pin, either. I lubed that sucker up good and worked it for a good 5 minutes. It's not the pin as it goes all the way through when you rotate it away from the frame. It's catching somewhere on the slide/frame and I'll be dipped if I can figure out where. I've been fiddling with this for so long, my left hand is cramped from trying to hold the slide against the recoil spring (holy crap these things are STIFF!).

I'm no help. I have not field stripped my 1911 Colt Government in years. Actually haven't fired it in years. But I did find this on google if it's any help

"Looks like the slide is in battery, which means your slide stop lobe is not lined up with the doghouse (little half moon cut notch just behind the slide stop notch). Pull the slide back just enough to line up with the doghouse and you'll be able to get it in.

I'm an idiot. I was attempting to rack the slide too far.

A member in the 1911 forum turned me on to this site. 1911 Ultra Tool

Should make things much easier on future tear downs.
Good thing they have some video's I wouldn't know how to use those gadgets.

I only have this ... and not sure I remember how and why to use it.

I really need to think seriously about cleaning up the amount of email I receive on a daily basis, especially as some of them contain info about deals that I'm most likely going to look at and punish my bank account even further.

Yep.... I purchased another 1911 and it'll be here on Tuesday.

Took it to the range yesterday.. **sigh** Looks like I'm gonna have to learn how to do minor things to these things. Ran into three issues that I'm told is easy to fix as it's caused by an extractor issue. Put close to 150 rounds through it.

1. It fails to go into battery. A lot.
2. When the mag is full, the first round sometimes fails to feed.
3. Sights are off. WAY off.

First two are apparently easily fixed with a bit of extractor polishing and adjusting. We'll see.

Picked up the new firearm when I went to the range. No way it was going to get fired until it's been torn down, cleaned thoroughly, lubed properly. Damned thing is swimming in oil in the plastic bag.

One thing's for sure. After firing this beast, my SIG P365 felt like a .22 afterwards!

Ooooof! I sat down and did the unthinkable. How much have I spent on goodies over the past 3 months.

Ouch! But.... I got some neat stuff!

I'll post pics later.

In addition to all that, I have come to the realization that I need storage for parts, tools, etc. So I've also started to accumulate some slick tool boxes from Dewalt's T-Stack line. Some of them even came with closable containers for itty bitty parts. Nice!

When I was 16 I got my 1st job working at a full service 'gas station'. Yep, back then mechanical work and pumping gas. The owner was in his mid twenties and heavily into building hot rods for the drag strip. Kind of my hero at the time. Most of my pay check was going into high performance parts for my car. I complained about all my paycheck going for car parts to a friend, Corvette George (so named because he had a different Corvette every year). Anywho ... Corvette George gave me this advice that I still live buy.

"Don't add up what you're spending on your hobbies or you won't have any".

True dat. However, I do think there are fun hobbies out there that aren't as much of a drain on your wallet.

Guns, yeah, you expect that some of your acquisitions are going to cause your wallet to scream in pain. Who woulda thunk that knives occupy the same category!
