Your methodology just seems extremely narcissistic to me. How did you survive out in the world until you found the ecig that you cannot go through a church service without feeling the need to pull out your Silver Bullet?

Gee Simple... how did YOU survive out in the "world" without a sense of humor?

Try not taking everything so seriously... you'll live longer.

(Oh, and by the way... I'm jewish, and don't own a Silver Bullet.)

Sitting here in the airport waiting for my son to arrive from his visitation weekend with her.

In this same airport I have questioned about 4 people here and one on the phone.

The last time I pulled it out and hit it without quitting it, customer service rep or something came up to the boarding agent and stated that someone was smoking... I volenteered info that could have been my nic inhaler. She told me that it would set off the smoke alarms. I told her I would stop. Next time I should just do it and wait to ask for a supervisor.

I have no problem whipping it out here, but some kids are always around and I don't want to deal with some irate ignorant parent.

Anyone else have issues in the airport?

This post was just wrong on so many levels. I guess everyone can't be smart. Someone has to be the dull knife.

OK Mr. OP, you live it up in your own little world. :(

actually this thread is the right way to go about it, unless you work for the FDA that is. if we hide our habit and ostracize ourselves then that's exactly what they'll expect. if we stand up for ourselves and our rights then that's the only way we'll make any headway.

the more the public gets used to seeing it the sooner it will be accepted as the norm. hide it and play into the FDA's hands if u want. but then don't cry when it does get banned because people only knew what the FDA told them. personally, i'll let the public know about this little wonder and get people used to seeing it because i'm not ready to become a black market supplier yet. until i am, i'll work towards keeping them around legally.

I read posts from posters like Big Hitter, and wonder "am *I* nuts, or are other people just seeing things differently"...

Let me get this straight, from Big Hitters perspective...

I'm doing NOTHING wrong vaping, it IS NOT smoking, it does NOT harm other people around me being there is no tars, or other chemicals that tobacco, when burning produces, but because THEY don't know what it is, therefore *I* shouldn't do it??? Or should I, perhaps, vap away, but explain, in a calm, polite manner to those who object, exactly what vaping is, and that it is NOT smoking?

By the way, I've had almost no one complain when I DO vap... other then posters such as Big Hitter... not sure why it bothers him/her, but obviously, it does!

You hit the nail on the head, Demon. Big business pretty much controls the gov't here in the U.S., and anyone who thinks that the tobacco industry is NOT going to try to squash vaping is living in a dream world! Belive me, vaping will put a big hit on smoking, and the tobaccco industry, if and when it really gains in acceptance and public awareness.

The way to speed up public awareness AND acceptance, is by having it be more visable, NOT by sneaking around like a naughty 5 year old.

One note: I do live in Los Angeles. Perhaps people in So. California, New York and other heavily populated areas are more accepting, or less judgemental. I don't really know, and I do NOT mean this as an attack on other parts of the country or the world, just saying that perhaps the reason I don't get bothered when I DO vap in public is partly due to where I live.

"OK Mr. OP, you live it up in your own little world. "....

what a snotty remark! I don't believe I have attacked ANYONE on this thread, other then those who've felt the need to personally attack me. Not sure why people feel it's necessary to go there. Can't you post your opinions and leave the personal attacks out of it?

I honestly believe it's them that's nuts thinking that way. they seem to think that if they hide it thay can continue to do it longer, but those of us that grew out of that mentality realize that we don't have to hide it and if we want to keep it then we have to display it and stand up for our rights accordingly (because if we don't nobody else will)

i think our only option there would be to get over our petty quibbles about big tobacco start asking RJ Renolds and the others to see if they won't start selling us just the nic, that way they could b suppliers and create jobs instead of making them competition. in the end that could possibly be our ONLY saving grace.

The way to speed up public awareness AND acceptance, is by having it be more visable, NOT by sneaking around like a naughty 5 year old.

I agree with this one. vape where you want. I am in the army and even though a lot of us smoke it is as bad here as any where else. smoking has to be done only in designated areas and you will quickly get chewed out if you are not in the right spot. (yes even here in afghanistan) but I vape in my office, in the hanger where I work, and in most buildings where I end up waiting for something. I have met many high ups that way, most of them wanting to know about my ecig. I have not been told I can't yet. over all the military may be looking down on ecigs, but one on one everyone I have met that asks I explain what it is, and point them to ecf for more information.

I agree with you Happy. Following your example presents a positive picture for vaping. And thank you for your service!

+1!! Those who want to hide in dark corners to vape and vape only with the smokers, send the exact message the FDA wants to be sent about vaping. It is something that is bad for you and for those around you. It is the same or worse than smoking. It must be kept in the dark until it can be banned completely. Those advocating this position are playing right into the FDA's lies.

Great points!

Do NOT call them eCigarettes!

I also agree that, while in it's infancy stage, having PV's look like typical cigs made sense, they also have a negative connotation in the publics mind.

It's similar to the fact that when I started to vap, I purchased Marlban, or other tobacco flavored juice, wanting to reproduce the taste of my analog cigarette. Now... the LAST thing I want to do is reproduce it's taste... it tastes NASTY! I was NOT smoking because it tasted "good"...

Now, today... I'm vaping "Green Apple" from Backwoods Brew, and eJoker.

By the way... I usually tell strangers, if they ask (and it's very infrequent), that "it's a personal vaporizer, which I require to remedy a life threatening physical condition"... they generally walk away with a quizical look on their face, after that! (not really far from the truth!)

Thanks for your post!

Excellent points!! I always refer to it as a personal vaporizer or a personal inhaler and that it saved me from a life threatening condition. And it is not Big Tobacco that is fighting against PV's. It is the pharmaceutical industry that is against it because it will kill their NRT business that does not work but makes them billions of dollars a year.

You are doing nothing wrong if you go around singing in public.
Or wearing orange pants with a green shirt and yellow shoes.

Doesn't mean you should go around doing it. More power to you if thats your thing.

Wether you think its your job to "bring awareness", well I guess thats your decision and thats fine. Just don't tell others to do so. I have more a picture in my mind that your an attention ....., and love confrontation. It would probably make your day if someone questioned your right to vape in public.

Just remember awareness has two sides.... I'm willing to bet if you took a pole more than 50% would vote to ban vaping EVEN IF THEY KNEW ALL THE FACTS !! So you running around brining awareness as you put it is mostly likely have a big negative effect, even if you think otherwise. And just going around so people see you IS NOT BRINGING AWARENESS !! Or are you handing out pamphlets with the facts to everyone who sets their eyes on you.

WHAT YOUR BRINGING DOOD IS TROUBLE FOR US.... MARK MY WORDS.

If people in the world were rational your theory might hold up. But mom and dad don't want to see you in an airport puffing away and have to explain to their children what your doing. They could care less if its safe. And if they get a chance to vote on it some day they will still care less if its harmless. They are going to think "hey remember that idiot doing that at the airport, yea lets vote to ban that, I don't want my kids to see that"!

I'll fly under the radar thank you, until people like you ruin it for the rest of us.

I vape on breaks at work with the smokers. I just cant bring myself to vape where its designated non smoking like at restaurants and stuff. Maybe after the Ivaqs study confirms the second hand vapor is non toxic. As it is now I cant imagine there being no nicotine or toxins in my second hand vapor. Where there is a smell there is a allergy waiting to go off.

I stealth vape sometimes in bathrooms and what not.

BTW: I'm working on a handout and would like to hear opinions:

"What you have seen is a battery operated PV—Personal Vaporizer or Electronic “cigarette” but it does not burn tobacco! The “smoke” is 99% water vapor. There is no second hand smoke. There is no fire danger, no lingering smell, no butts and no health risk for the user or bystanders. People using this machine are not smoking! It delivers a small amount of nicotine to the user but without any cancer causing chemicals. This device has helped many to stop smoking tobacco. This device does not violate any “No Smoking” laws."

Good idea, IMO. Here are my suggested changes:

"What you have seen is a battery operated PV—Personal Vaporizer or what some people call an Electronic “cigarette” but it does not burn tobacco! What looks like smoke is 99% water vapor. There is no second hand smoke. There is no fire danger, no lingering smell, no butts and no more health risk to bystanders than being around someone who's wearing a nicotine patch. People using this machine are not smoking! It can deliver a small amount of nicotine to the user, but without the cancer causing chemicals found in cigarettes, but many people use these devices without any nicotine at all. This device is saving lives by helping many to stop smoking tobacco. This device does not violate any “No Smoking” laws."

Just my 2-cents. When non-smoking friends and family have been curious about my device, I always relate it to wearing a nicotine patch because no one complains about people ingesting nicotine through the patch. So I think that's an important comparison to make.

I don't think anyone's going to dispute your desire, or right, to fly under the radar by not vaping in public.

The FDA has already put itself in the thick of things investigating this industry. And if every last vaper in the country remained stealth so the non-vaping world never saw it, you can't unring that bell. The FDA's in it, and they're not going away. It isn't "people like you" who are going to ruin it.... it's the FDA, the cigarette manufacturers, and the drug companies.

Why to people keep saying that you are exhaling "99% water vapor"? Am i missing something or isnt this stuff mostly VG/PG? I know that saying that it is 99% water vapor makes it somehow more palletable to others around you. But, is that statement even true?

Moving on to the actual content of the OP:
When you are vaping in places where smoking is NOT allowed, you have someone come up to you to question what you are doing. GREAT, you have an created an opportunity to inform another person about these devices. And perhaps that person will recommend that a loved one try these, or even try it themselves!

But what about the other 6 people that walked by during your conversation. All they saw was that some a$$hole was smoking in a place where they werent suposed to be. They'll go around grumbling and mumbling rather than approach you and ask questions. Trust me, they are more prone to go to a manager and complain about you smoking than they are to ask you to stop... Let alone provide you with the chance to educate them on PV's. When doing so, around costco, petsmart, or w/e, you are just creating an environment where people are more likely to complain than be willing to absorb any information you are providing. Congrats, you had the opportunity to educate 1-2 people. But, you just ...... off everyone else in the store.

When you make the decision to vape where smoking is not allowed you are only causing more harm than good. Educating 1-2 while upsetting any more than 1-2 is the definition of causing more harm than good.

Seriously, go out to vape with the smokers. They are the people that would actually notice the differance between an analog and a PV anyway. And for every one of them that you convert, you buy good will for PV's with all their friends and family. This is how you make PV's socially acceptable. You cannot make something socially acceptable by blaizingly puffing away in the checkout line of the supermarket.

I agree ... but feel the need to add that all those who are "hiding" aren't doing us any service as a group. I'm not talking about entitlement .. "I can do what I please" .. kind of being public. I'm talking about the same things I personally did when I was smoking. I tried to maintain distance between my by-product smoke and those who find it offensive, I tried to be polite, and I tried to be courteous. I still do ... but I will not be banished to the smoking area if only because I quit for a reason. I share V4L business cards with all who seem interested or ask questions. I either ask first or be stealth (because I have seen the study that was released and know that there are more on the way that will support its results that there is no nicotine remaining in the exhaled vapor), and I don't blow clouds or vape frequently if I'm being stealth. If I am asked to stop, I will ... but I also most likely won't patronize that business anymore.

If we don't work to overcome the smoking stigma that the FDA and the like are trying to tie into vaping as well, the FDA/BT/BP will win.

I will not lie down quietly while the government spreads myths and outright falsehoods on the way to stealing away my personal choice and my right to defend and protect my health.

if mom and pop and kids first walk by some schmuck vaping in a smoking section then u'll be right, and that schmuck hiding out w/ the smokers is the reason that kid will ask why some1 is doing it in the airport. people bringing it out into the public eye won't ruin it, especially since that's the only chance there is to SAVE it. if we all hide it, then the FDA wins because there's no dispute to their progaganda. we must stand up for our rights and not act like we're ashamed if we want to keep vaping w/o becoming criminals.

and u'r singing in public and wearing loud colors are perfect examples. lets add in overdoing it on the perfume or cologne. people do those things all the time and those aren't banned. (the perfume/ cologne thing really should be though imo.) and since this isn't hurting anyone w/ 2nd hand smoke i'll do it where i please. if i'm going to sit w/ the smokers i might as well just light up a cig instead.

FYI actually, i'm more introverted than to like that much attention or confrontation. but i also see what will happen if we hide it like naughty children too.

i just wanted to add that because the following 2 quotes make my points for me. hide it like a naughty 5 yr old if u want, hopefully there are more rational people out there who see that if we hide it like it's a bad thing the faster it'll get taken away.

i myself am a grown man, i don't need anyone telling me what i can and can't have. i can make my own mind up. legal or not i like these more so i WILL have them. and i don't like smelling like smoke now that i can smell it so i WON'T use the smoking areas thank you. that leaves everywhere else basically. if they ban it, then i'll simply have to start singing and wearing loud colored clothes so they don't notice my vaping i guess *shrug*

Sorry to disagree but your statements make it seem that smoking and vaping are one and the same. They are polar opposites. The people I know who vape are the biggest anti cigarette folks around. And your statements about 6 people walking by or everyone in Petsmart being po’d is a HUGE assumption. It’s just as possible that nobody gives a rip what you are doing.

I was in a restaurant one time and the manager came over and said someone was complaining about me smoking and asked me to put it out. He was very nice about it and I explained what I was really doing and gave him a run down on my PV. After he could not smell anything and understood what it was he went to the person that complained and explained the situation. A few minutes later the manager and the complainer came to my table and I gave another demonstration. My new friend had a brother that smoked for 40 years and she was desperate to get him off the cigs. Long story short, her brother has been vaping for two months now and I have a three converts.

I've become a little more bold and have started vaping in public places more often. I always have cards to hand out and the response I have gotten so far has been positive. The main question I seem to get is "Do those things really work?" When I tell them I haven't had a regular cigarette since August 1st, they seem even more interested.

The trick is to be courteous and respectful. I personally don't like to vape around small children that I don't know because a lot of them are too young to distinguish between a PV and a cigarette. If I was vaping in public and someone told me to stop, I would. But I would have a discussion with them and try to find out why they objected to it.

The real key to successful vaping in public? Don't be a jerk.
