Thanks Lannie!
It's kind of hard to know what the right questions are at this point. I would love to know where to go to figure out the basics. What are the best resources for me to read? Once I begin reading, I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions. I worry about being overwhelmed with too much info at one time. Is there a resource that keeps it simple like a DIY for Dummies book would?
Would it be wise to start out with the most basic stuff, and slowly advance to more complicated aspects of DIY? Should I first learn where to buy nicotine and vg/pg, how to add nicotine to a pg/vg base, then advance to adding one flavor, and so on and so on until I'm mixing more complicated recipes? I don't want to take up too much of anyone's time, so I am happy to read about this, and then come here for specific questions.
What I did was read hundreds of posts. Figured it out in my head then ordered every piece of mixing equipment I could ever need. That's not a good strategy. Most of what I bought I never used. I have a large tub of unused mixing gear in the attic.
Here's some suggestions.
1. Like you said yourself, start simple.
2. There are some flavors that don't need mixing. You can make juice with a single flavor. Nude Nicotine are good for that. That's how I started out. So get some sample bottles of NN flavors as a starter.
3. I use small and large measuring cylinders for mixing nic and vg/pg, 20ml and 100ml sizes. I make bottles of 10mg nic base. Pick your own level.
4. I got 100mg strength nic. That can be a little intimidating. You could get 36mg or something to start out if you are nervous. Whatever, you will need to dilute it down to the level you want to vape at.
5. Use syringes for adding flavoring. Some 1ml and some 3ml sizes should be all you need to start out. Get the smallest needles, I think they are size 18.
6. You can take the nic base you made, put it in smaller bottles, and add some flavoring. That will reduce the nic level slightly. Mine will go down from 10mg to 9 or 8 after I add flavoring. Doesn't matter that much. Once you've made a few batches and got used to the process you can get fancy and make juice at a precise nic level. I'm just describing a simple method to get started.
7. Get a small tray for doing the work on, and keep a lot of paper towels handy. If you use high concentration nic, get some latex or nitrile gloves. Buy various sizes of bottles.
That's how I do it still, I'm not worried about being precise. Not saying it's the right way or the best way. If you scan the DIY section you'll find a bunch of different quick and easy methods. But it's hard to understand the different options until you've had your hands on the equipment and poured liquids and so forth. Once you've tried it everything you read will start to make sense. Then if you want to be an artiste you can go that way. You still have time to figure it all out before they take it away.
You could get NN flavors. Everything else you can get from Wizard Labs. Or multiple other places.
If you have more detailed questions you can ask here or anywhere in the DIY section. You'll get more answers than you can digest. Overall it's better to just start doing it than try to figure everything out first.
