I dont understand how beading wire would work. It shouldn't cause shorts but i dont think it would heat up either. Maybe someone else will chime in on this. In my mind kanthal wire has resistance so it produces heat. Regular wire (beading wire) i think has little resistance so it wouldn't heat up. Our houses would burn down, car burn up. Someone set me straight here.

Don't really understand myself but I think its the same as touching a screwdriver to the pos - neg ..... Short.
It seems if its not a resistance wire that heats up its sending direct current.

And our houses would burn up if you touch neg to pos wires with no circuit breaker or fuse :(

You need a Cartomizer/Atomizer Ohm Meter. They are out of stock at most places now. You just screw your RM2 on it and flip on the switch. It shows you the ohms. Easy as pie!
Atomizer and Cartomizer Resistance Meter

Please take care using your REO with the spring pulled back up. It will NOT collapse again if it shorts. You could end up with a melted button, or a battery explosion.

Karen is right as usual, you really NEED to check resistance and your batteries (to make sure they are charging properly). The meter she noted above is SO convenient and easy to use, but sadly, they seem to be out of stock everywhere. In the meantime, you can get a cheap multimeter at Harbor Freight for like $3.99, and here's a youtube video to show you how to use it. Cheaper than springs or melted REOs :)

what is that?
I usually keep a VapeSafe Fuse in my Grand. It saved my .... the other day. It's a little bit of a tight fit but it does fit (and it works). I ordered a replacement. Now there is a vapessafe2 which is supposedly reusable.

Vape safe?

It's a small safe with a combination lock for storing your mods.
There's even a little compartment for lamb cotton.
Baaah,,,

VapeSafe2 - REUSEABLE 2 Cents For Safety Mod Safety Fuse [gv-NEWVapeSafe2-Reuseable] - $14.95 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more
haha! You can also get the one-time-screw up one here Electronic Cigarette Supplies & Electronic Cigarette Refills for Name-Brand Electronic Cigarettes! E-Cigs from LiteCigUSA for under $5.00.

"The Vape Safe fuse goes between the mod and the negative side of your 18xxx sized battery.
"Due to the extra length it will add to your battery we can not guarantee it will work in all units."

7 amp Safety fuse for use in most mods.

With lithium batteries one of the biggest safety issues can come from a hard short. The fuse is a mechanical fuse that will trip if it senses a short in the mod by breaking the connection to the battery. "While this is an extra safety feature is not a complete fail safe."

The VapeSafe can also help protect variable voltage circuitry in some devices, hot springs, and other circuitry in your mod that can be damaged from a short."

There is also a Shortstop, which I use in my grand. It has tripped several times, so I figure I'm way ahead and still have a "spare spring" that I bought with my 2nd grand. It also adds about a dime's worth of length, but there's still plenty of room for the spring to compress.
