Like I mentioned haven't been doing this for too long. Been about four months. I'd love to hear if someone else can recommend a better build. I've never ran a single coil, but the density of the clouds off this thing is wonderful, but I'm more a flavor person. For me it isn't quite there in the flavor department.. I thought it might be my wicking but I read it's more so in how you build your coils. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Got my BF Derringer today....I tried dual 27G 8 wrap 1/16th ID coils and 2mm RxW....it didn't work too well.

Loving the air flow and draw, but it just seemed to not wick properly and I always have had that issue with 2mm RxW.

Can anyone instruct me how I could get a 3/32 ID centered coil build in here? I would then have enough room for 3mm RxW *if* I can get the coil in the center of the deck and not off to the sides...

Why does it have to be centered? I build all mine offset so the coil can be tilted to use RxW...

Well..the deck just seems so small and if I want to fit the 3mm RxW in there, it would seem better to have an even amount of it on each side of the coil with each end touching a side of the deck.

That isn't needed at all. I wick all mine on a slant with the RxW running to the deck on the lower side. Just a nub on the high side.

I've tried that a number of times wondering if I'm missing something but it's just never worked for me unless I squonk per vape...and that's on RxW, the "good" silica, cotton products, etc...using 1 down to .7 coils in dual...I wonder if it's just a subjective thing? I lean towards a wet, thick, coolish vape...for me the best way to get that is to go "cloud chaser" style and saturate my coils in a bed of wick then power through it by hitting the fire button on the way to my mouth...not the best for batt life, but they re-charge <<shrugs shoulders>>

Ok. Ripped out the micro's and put in a set or 3/32" duals. 24g 5/6 wrap .3Ω w/ 3mm RxW. This is not a build for any of the rookies for sure. Is was a pain to get them in there and wasn't much room to do it. I think it would have been a little easier with 27g or higher. It is doable though. The vape is better than the micro's i had in it. I also scrubbed the atty while i had it apart but am still picking up a hint of machine oil though. Here's a couple pics. Sorry, some came out a little on the blurry side. You get the idea though...

Nice!

I did mine with 7 wraps of 26G 3/32 ID...did something very similar with the 3mm RxW. Vapes great, love the draw...the flavor is absolutely terrible though. :( I really feel like I need to re-evaluate the way I vape after almost 5 years. Using larger diamater and lower gauge wire just makes the vape chilly, its not a warm dense vape...its just very cold. The derringer is a tad warmer then my Odin but....still.

I really don't think I like 2mm RxW and I don't want to go back to cotton so how can I get a warm/hot dense vape with 3/32 ID coils?

I have 27,26,25,24 gauage kanthal to work with....

Oh, and Papa...be ready to get a little messy if you want to take the AFC ring off to adjust etc

Maybe I should wash my Derringer better, I just rinsed it off in the sink. Doesn't Chowder use peanut oil though?

I just noticed, and maybe it's the lighting, but is your center post not gold plated? Or is it cuz you made it a bf and CH changed out the posts?

Maybe that's why the flavor is off for me.. I did boil it twice and clean it for machine lol. But then again maybe I have vaper's fatigue and coming back from being sick for a while.

I am liking how the 24g is vaping. It isn't hot like I would've expected it to be. It metered right at .30Ω on the nose. was shooting for .25Ω though... I will say it was tough getting 24g in it though, but glad I did it...

Interesting about the bad taste thing. Tom did just recently say he uses peanut and canola oils for cutting and drilling. No telling what Praxis used for the rest of the atty, though.

Sounds like the short cap has already claimed a victim (tmel) - gotta watch the dt depth; got it. Also sounds like the deck is a bit squeezy to build on.

Hopefully a thorough cleaning gets these babies up to snuff with the flavour.
