I would also like to suggest, since we are mid year, let those who turned in the last six months, find a Vet friend to open a thread for them....even those who have introduced them themselves. It will cutback on some of the backlash. Whether this is made public or stated if asked, is up to you.
Also a suggestion since it appears as there is to be no conditions on the grand prizes. Dedicate one of them to the people who entered (excluding the minis) the first six months.

This is for if you go with Mark's suggestion.

we've only wanted to separate ourselves from the contest because we strongly objected to some of the rules. as joker stated, for this year the contest is tied to prevets and will stay that way.

OK, so how does that fact impact the above? I read what you said, but I'm not sure I know what you mean.

???????????????????????????????
Opening up a free-for-all post-turning will take some discussion.......to say the least and is not what anyone is after as far as I know.

Hang on, OK. Lemme address what Tibby just said 1st.... we'll get back to this.

I'm just looking at the backlash of changing things. It's an idea which will affect you guys mainly so it's up to you to decide.

I don't know what some of his terms mean, but I think I like the idea because it is basically another way of saying your #1 and #2. Crossing-over was a John Edward show, eh? ;) I think he means "turning". lol. Same diff.

So, we're saying that:
1) The pre-veteran introduces themselves in the PVT thread, or has a veteran sponsor do it for them. Either that sponsor, or we, create a welcome thread in the New Veterans Welcome Forum. This is before they "turn" and they must "turn" this year...2012.
2) After they become a veteran, they must still post a link to their welcome thread in the contest entry thread.
3) We can chat them up as to themes, avatar parties, etc. but they are not conditions of any contest eligibility. <-- Check me on this. Need input here.

This avoids confusion and time constraints. It also allows them to skip participation in PVT celebrations... or in other words, doesn't do anything to encourage participation.

I agree with all of these

Just a comment not to forget...we want them to show up if they request a party(we work hard for those party's)....that needs consideration when Tweeking is done.

Re: markfm's quote
If we can all agree on this. then we're halfway there. The rest is easy.

I'm not here....

OK, but see gang, this is where we get into catch-22s. Marks quote specifically omits requiring participation in the avatar party (showing up) even if one is requested. That's where we start getting into trouble. However, I can't think of a way to "tweak" anything later that doesn't get us into "complications". Which is Mark's point. Kat's rules said the same thing, basically.

And if the contest is "tied to prevets"... what does that mean?

Well, Tibby, we could limit the contest to those welcome threads created by us in the PVT team. That way we also track them with "The List".... if that's what j0ker's stuff implies. This is what I mean by "I don't know the implication of it being tied to PVT this year".

However, I think that the avatar-party-showing-up-encouragement thing should be separated from the contest, IMO. We can do that another way... or not.

 Perhaps I'm a dork but...so they can enter the contest without participating In PVT. I guess I believe participation should be encouraged in the PVT threads.

Fine meggers. I'm not arguing one way or the other in that quote. Just pointing it out. I didn't say "good thing" or "bad thing". lol. ;)

So meggers vote is to require PVT participation. Got it.
Markfm's quote basically said no requirement.
The rest have "whoo hoo"ed back and forth, but some quotes are mutually exclusive. lol.

a reminder for all

Anything beyond these rules are not my responsibility. The whole agreement in the beginning of this contest was that I would assist in constructing the contest and administer the contest. I've left the eligibility requirements and enforcement of eligibility in the hands of those who run this section.

Too explain a little further, I only partially understand the requirements but I find them somewhat confusing. I've found in my experience that a confusing contest (or anything for that matter) will cause people to lose interest quite quickly. So my plan for 2013 is to make things a lot less stringent and in turn make the contest more fun, that is if there is a 2013 Vet contest. If we are unable to come to a smoother process, then I may choose to not be involved next year and either the contest will be abandoned or conducted outside the ECF Official Contest thread. I hope we can make this work, rather than abandon.

So, as i read through and try to catch up, my interpretation (which may be wrong) is that it really does seem like there's a consensus on everything but whether or not to require avi parties to be eligible for the grand prize.

Is this accurate so far?
welcome thread started in the new vet forum prior to turning, (self started thread still not eligible)
must have at least one post in PVT (introduction, request. flyby, playing and having fun),
must turn in 2012
link to welcome thread must be posted in contest thread

the remaining question is whether or not we keep the two tiers of the contest. if so, being "present at the fireworks" gives us wiggle room - as atty says, changing the interpretation of present at the fireworks has the least impact. Assuming that the fireworks can be scheduled, rescheduled, or whatever. this is the most difficult part of the contest- how to help people to understand what they haven't seen before and work the time so that they and we can be there.

(i wonder how many posts i missed typing this, and how far behind i am now ;) )

lol.

I need a break. I'll be back later. You guys kick it around for a while. We need West Coast input too (like Nat)...there's time. No rushing. I'm going to get some chores done.
