well, i do try to provide beverages or stuff/gifts for my friends once in awhile, and i don't think of that as paying them to play with me.... 
I agree. Just tie it to the Welcome thread. It seems they have to come to the PVT to find out about the turning, info for the contest, party(if they want one...of which we'll convince them they do)and...how much fun we are. 
yup - and i'm sure some of them really appreciated being enticed, since otherwise they would have missed out on a great time!

Reading CES's post reminds me of some "old business". Probably shouldn't say this, but I guess it's OK to bring it up just to make sure we can eliminate it:
The monthly contest probably can't or shouldn't change. I do note however, that the odds are a lot better for someone that turned vet in January than for someone who turns in December. The Jan person get's a shot at 12 drawings, the Dec person gets 1 chance. So maybe this is for next year's stuff. The monthly contest should probably be for those participating in that month.... not accumulating participants as the year goes on.
This is a can of worms that we probably can't open or change (guessing here).

unfortunately, we have learned otherwise in the past. there are very few people like you, meggers, who come for the fun's sake
it's a good point atty, but, yeah, way beyond anything that i want to try to tackle this late in the game

hugs, nat! humor is always welcome but at least this discussion is a pleasure to attend
but just to play the other side, the first few months this year were brutal, fun, but brutal...now that we allow self selection to get to the thread, the current pace is pretty reasonable
