OK Kat. This is a discussion thread. As such, there are several discussions going on at the same time. We've been through this before, you haven't. What you're saying is perfectly reasonable and we said it already last time. You just didn't know it. I'm not actually disagreeing with you, and we simply have two questions going on at the same time.
There is some history here. My understanding is that we are not allowed to change the rules. If we can, then it's a different question. I agree that you (and most of us) want to change it. But I thought we settled that months ago. We had started a large discussion and it got stopped, I dropped out of the whole thing at that point.
Now, If you and/or others want to pursue a rule change again, go ahead. My question to j0ker is not a rule change. It's how we apply the forum software changing of a person's status to the rules. We don't change the rules as published (in this context). But we do need an interpretation from j0ker how to reconcile what ECF does to a person's status and the rules.
Remember: We can't control the "turning"... the forum software has a set of rules it follows. It's not even a specific date/time exactly. They have to be logged in, they have to have a certain # of posts, they have to be over 365 days old, it happens in some process that runs at 25 past the hour....
We publish the earliest possible time that they could turn. But if they don't log in... they don't turn. The rules only say that they have to be there during their turning... not how turning works.
As to this:
With all due respect, I'm not opening another can of worms. I addressing the can of worms that was opened all along and left sitting unresolved on the counter top.
I am not circumventing/twisting/bending anything. The notion of timing the turnings pre-dates the contest. It's not a new thing. What we don't have is a clear ruling as to how to apply that fact to the rules as written (since we are not allowed to change them). The rules as written seem to support the delayed turning. Others have posted "no" you can't do that. We need clarification. It's hard to get it explained and clarified, because the turning is not absolute like throwing a switch. It won't be. That's a nice pipe-dream, but it doesn't work that way in the real world. Unfortunately, the software algorithm is a bit more complex than some absolute time.

As for your plans to circumvent/twist/bend the rule by having prevets not log on at their designated time, it's opening another can of worms.
