JJ, while i appreciate the thought, i dread the nightmare it would cause. people don't generally decide the parameters of contests or eligibility requirements for the ones they want to enter - or every contest would be a random draw with as many entries as anyone has time to make.

I do appreciate the comments of everyone who took the time to post in this thread...and i think that we are incorporating the inclusiveness that was suggested. I also think we're trying to preserve both the contest and the PVT thread...and be as fair as possible.

If this is the worry, another option is to start a poll in the Veteran's Forum. This would give you an idea what others think and leave out those that will be getting into the contest. We've been battling this for months now and we got some pretty smart Veteran's out there and they would give you an idea if you are headed in the right direction.

i still endorse tweety's idea for the additonal drawing as a bonus for those who hang with us.

to alleviate the job of markings we can post in the welcome thread ''thanks for letting us watch your turning''
this way jj does not have to go through pages and pages in pvt - this responsibility of posting could be assigned to the thread starter

Additional drawing has been added, correct?

Great idea. Anybody on the Committee posts a thank you for turning and that post needs to be linked to the contest thread!!!! Brilliant, Tibs!!! :toast:

We do NOT need a poll. J0ker said we are to make the rules because we do the work.

not really - it would keep jj's marking system in place - all marked ++ are eligible for the bonus drawing ;)

compiling and clarifying the votes of the people who've been involved so far on the larger questions was an incredible PIA. though i suggested a poll just yesterday morning (was it only yesterday?) it was mostly to give us/me an easier way to compile the thoughts of the committee. I was gonna start it in an out of the way place, and we've gotten the data that we needed , including an elegant compromise for the things we were stuck on. If people cared enough to comment here then i took their comments onto account, and if anyone has a yes or no vote/comment on what's currently on the table, I'll include that in the vote count that i'm tracking now. (i seem to have taken on the role of vote counter- but would be glad to cede it to anyone else who wants to count votes)

Well, I was hoping we could lessen jj's burdens... Since all the threads are now eligible for the contest, the avatar party people would only need a special post from us, confirming their participation, and that post would be their ticket to the bonus drawing.

Just checking, sorry to interupt. Is the party/fireworks only about a second entry for the gp, or is it the only entry? A seCond entry is likely a shrug to many. Pretty sure I've seen posts indicating both ways.

we're at making all welcome threads eligible for the main GP entry, and attendance at avi parties providing eligibility for a second bonus year-end contest (suject to j0ker's approval to add an additional bonus drawing) . A second entry for the main GP drawing is a backup choice.

what do you think?

Hi, Mark! I think we've all decided that we prefer a bonus drawing--for the avatar party people. :)

that's fine going forward, but requires that who ever is actually running the bonus drawing to read the thread. it doesn't matter for the monthly, or the GP drawing, but for the bonus drawing (assuming that we accept that option and j0ker approves it) I like a marking system cause it tells j0ker at a quick glance if it's eligible. for people who attended avi parties in the first 6 months the ++ would be the ticket to the bonus drawing.

we can ask j0ker what he prefers when /if we get to that point.

OK. So it's not a "2nd grand prize". It's a different (additional) drawing with a small prize for attending avatar parties. An "Avatar Party participant" drawing. The Grand Prize is open to everyone with the welcome thread created prior to turning per whatever rules that I'm not sure I want to try to duplicate here.

You'll still have the same eligibility complaints on the AP-Drawing. What if they were late? How open is it? How about people in the 1st 6 months. So we have to settle those issues.

so this is what i think we're voting yes or no on.

(or, to meet the 10 char limit, heck yes Kat, that's a great idea!)

this incorporates the consensus so far.....

what we want
1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet an entry in the monthly contests and the year-end grand prize drawing. Eligible threads will be started in the new vets forum prior to turning. The welcome thread request comes through PVT, in the form of 1 post minimum in PVT. Threads must be started prior to turning and cannot be self-started

2. Avatar parties: the welcome threads of those who schedule avatar parties in advance and attend them are eligible for entry into a bonus drawing at the end of the year. The party can be rescheduled from the forum default time without penalty. However, the new vet MUST be present at the time of their turning to be eligible for the bonus drawing.
(in practice this means that threads marked –- are eligible for the GP drawing, only ++ thread are eligible for the bonus drawing)

OK, so this is what we need a simple up and down vote for. I think.

So far we have:

Yeas

CES, Whiskey, Tom, Katya

Nays

???
