Speaking of sales and compression rings... How about those smooth compression rings? Was running my ELA with knurled everything for a few days, and I'm back to smooth today. Would be awesome to have a smooth compression ring to complete the look.

Yes and a Precise ELA V1/V2 Double Wide Knurled Top Accent Ring too...

No way. That's like saying the current VW Beetle is an upgrade over a classic bug. Its got some more features but is it better or just different? I say its just different. The v2 is nice, very very nice. But its no v1. The Brooks B17 saddle, the Rollei camera, the Saleen 7, the David, the Mona Lisa and the ELA v1 - all things that were done right the first time.

Wrong the ELA V2 is not just different, it is superior due to the new locking ring.... Ease of locking-more secure-better electrical connection. It is like comparing a drum brake setup to a disc brake, there no comparison in stopping power.. ;)

The v2 is outstanding, but it's not superior in weight, lock ring knurling or finish (and I've never had any problems with the lock ring or conductivity on my v1). The v3 will evolve into something else as well, and as well it should. In theory a Moissanite stone is considered to be "superior" to a Diamond but that doesn't mean its superior to everyone.

That's not what I have been told. :(

So Cali
I have the double stack satin and it leaves a gap. So I went with this combo. Same size gap but looks waaaay better. Since getting this thing it has not left my hand!

I prefer Ron White's take on "Diamonds - Render Her Speechless" to "Diamonds - That'll shut her up"

But anyway, I agree that ELA V1 and V2 are different enough that they might as well be called different things. I prefer using my V2 much more than V1, but prefer looking at V1 much more than V2.
Something with which David has always been consistent is that he makes what he makes. Not that he doesn't try to make something everybody likes, but first and foremost that *he* likes it. A knurl of one way or another may attract or repulse somebody else but in the grand scheme it's a continuum of art; nobody does stuff the way David does.

I don't think they should be called different things. Products evolve and change and clearly the v2 came from the v1 family tree. That's a good and bad thing depending on how you look at it. Some will like the changes and others will hate it but that shouldn't stop David from making what he likes. Look at the Ford Mustang - from 1964 through 1976 it was a cool sports car. Then 1977 hit and that thing was a rolling turd for the next 30 years in the eyes of many until Ford corrected it. 2005 hits and its awesome again.

Oh just you wait until the Mustang 2's hit the auto shows ;-)
I did like the 87-93 Mustangs though. I had an '89.

Talk to David about the conductivity....Superior electrical junction, I can tell when I fire my V2--It hits harder :vapor: ... My V1 would not fire if the ring was not tightened.. The V2 fires even with the locking untightened (loose).... That should tell you something

Just to update, all ELA's are now back to shipping with the diamond pattern knurling on the lock ring, just as pictured on this mod (thanks jkim5708):

I am sure glad I ordered a V2 early... I like the V2 ring that came with mine (Not Diamond cut). Clean lines IMO... But then again I do like the Diamond cut ring also...

I will say I like the look of the V1's smaller diamond cut better...
