I will agree to disagree! I hate to be the guy quibbling over word definitions, but I don't agree with your use of the word "hobby". And please don't lump me in with any "kool-aid" discussion, or fanboys. He makes a PV I like, and seems to be an interesting, nice guy. No need to polarize it like that.

I also disagree that he makes it to collect. Where's the benefit to him? That's like saying David made the Shockwave a limited run to profit on - he doesn't see a dime extra when someone out there sells it for $500.

I don't think I'm going to sway you on this, because you seem convinced Pedro is trying to operate this as a business, and his whole goal is to make truckloads of cash so he can buy a ferrari. That's not always everyone's motivation for doing something. Your comment about him still having a day job because it's stable is evidence of this. From what I've read in the limited time I spend on his forum (I check in every other week or so), he works as a scientist, loves his job, and has no intentions of ever manufacturing PV's full time.

If he wanted to quit and do this full time and buy himself a sports car, I'm sure he could.

Hey Vcoupe,

I have to say I pretty much agree with all of your points... except for one. The very fact that David has procured himself one of thse absolutely beautiful CNC machines proves that he's no hobbyist. He's definitely thinking long-term.

Referring to the discrepancies with his and your business models: I think that David is a perfectionist. It seems to me that he has his own vision and is seeking his own ideal production methods (see Henry Ford). I also think that David (not contradictorily) is a pragmatist. It seems to me that he will only commit to a business model that has been tested and demonstrated to work. Finally, I think that David is an entrepreneur. It seems to me that he comprehends the directions the e-cigarette market will turn (which explains all of his relatively precocious innovations) and appreciates consumer response to supply and demand (the sudden announcement of the Simplicity 14500).

I don't know about the other high-end mod designers/manufacturers out there, but I think that David (and Super-T) has the care and consideration to go long-term in their quest for vaping glory.

Cheers,
Abe
I tried sooooo hard not to comment.. Didn't work :). Lets agree to disagree but let me point out a few things.
1. A hobby is what we do at this level, selling mods in the format of a business with a website is not the part if his hobby. Don't kid yourself. I guess it's a hobby for David, Imeo, Jim, Zen, and everyone else. Stop drinking the kool-aid man. I'm not mad at him, I just don't like the arrogant cult he has following him like puppies.
2. Would I buy a Caravela? I once would. I'm not into cults and worship and couldn't buy one even if I wanted to :). It's a pretty little cylinder that's for sure. My beef is the "make it to collect and turn away people" thing. The arrogance on the forum, and I don't particularly like the guy he has moderating it.
3. Why in an ELA forum? I dunno bud ask blix :D. I will say David is a good example of functioning business model in contrast. My only beef with David is not using a flat bottom on the ELA.
4. ...and by the way Vap, I respect all opinions as I'm VERY opinionated, Pedro (every time I say his name I think if Napoleon Dynamite lol) still has a day job because its more stable at this point. He also lets people wait a year and makes his side cash. His faithful cult worshipers wait and praise the mod father lol.

Making money my friend is never a hobby, and Pedro is from Portugal not Greece so please no more myths about the hobby gods. He and the rest are here to make money and do so enjoyably. Enjoy your night folks :)

Hobby = "hey guys I made my own mod and will sell a few at cost if you are that interested".
Business = "hey guys look at my new mod that I MADE" .... It would have had more after that but Pedro was looking for a free feeler without paying ECF to be a vendor.

Well, I got my ELA. I like it. I have only one minor quibble and for one reason and one reason only. Okay, here it is...I am mainly an 18650 bat guy and that top edge where the ring edge along the inner tube is a bit sharp. This mod is very heavy not to my disliking at all, but with that sharp edge resting on my finger I have already gotten a paper like cut, I guess this will be my 18490 or stealth vape with 18350 to avoid that sharp edge. Other than that what I mention, its a fine mod.

Vaptamist... No I do not think Pedro thinks 1000 caravelas will bring him Far East riches lol. He seems like an interesting guy who thinks deeply before speaking, is well spoken, and as far as I know I'd probably love to talk with him. That just means I respect him, and in doing so I respect that I find him clever. Like I said, it's not a problem that I have with him personally. He probably is over his head but he can hire a young teenager to help him for a few bucks an hour to get his product out. I believe it began as a hobby and a test platform, and maybe by now he regrets a few decisions. He will make more things, and has like the dripper tank. So, lets call a spade a spade and honestly, who gives a s--- :).

I have a mind for business, creativity, and art which is why I question certain paths or decisions. If I had a bigger peeve than Pedro (vote for Pedro!), then it would be faceless. I feel his cult is worse and even more up his shoot than even the vela cult. At the end of the day just vape what you got and the rest is all BS.

My last pet vaping peeve..... What is with all the vaping videos with dudes in headsets playing music in the back ground with webcams from 2002? Lol. Looks rediculous.

You mean like the dudes and gals, that sit there looking at their screens, reading the chats... vaping and commenting on the chat?
I REALLY don't get that...

I'm getting peeved at my 18350 devices... i cut my nic way down to accomodate SLR atomizers, and those little 350's just don't keep up!

I'm going to be DONE with those batts so soooon.

Just wanted to let you Kayfun-i-acs that there is a semi-matte one for sale in the classies, Just thought you might want to see the Beta vs the Semi-polished. I think the ad is called "hign end attys for sale"

can't wait to compare my Kayfun to my sometime soon-coming Prometey... different design, but gets high praise...
Kayfun is pretty awesome... there's a guy with a titanium Pene from Russia in the classies...
I'm liking my Kayfun more than my Pene...similar design.

One more thing, is the spring supposed to be separate from the button or is the spring supposed to be slightly screwed onto the button threads?

Spring is seperate from the button. Sorry to hear it rolled away on you and then got bent :( Theres a little ledge on the back of the button it sits on, just slide it over and slide it in. Your spring is binding from being crooked. You should be able to straigten it adequately, but if not, we sell spares. It comes with the regular rate spring and we also sell and "HD" version here: https://www.supertmanufacturing.com/partsandkits.html

I noticed that with the simplicity, my soloution take a damp cloth and wipe down the ext tube, or the mod with the grain. The ext tube is the exact same finish as the simplicity, or really really close. I believe it must be some left over shavings of metal. Once I wiped down my simplicity good, I haven't had a problem.
