I believe serious modders are not happy about cloning and are at the mercy of the system.
Its up to the market to support them and for good reason.

At the same time 1. most clones up to now are junk in so many ways; a waste of money imo unless you are good with modding them your self.
2. Starting to happen now, in limited areas... when cloning standards rise, the original modders are facing a serious problem imo. How could they compete with cost differences?

They compete by innovation. A clone is a clone, nothing new to see. That's why I support the original maker and would rather do without than buy a clone. It's an investment in the future, I'll pay extra to see what's next. The Walmartinization is inevitable and that would be great in one way, getting more people off killing themselves by smoking. But for as long as this golden age lasts I'll be a patron of the artists.

I recently picked up a clone and atty combo for the sole purpose of taking a trip and not having to worry about it getting lost, stolen, or destroyed. They are like anything from china ........ Disposable. I always keep this one lying around for when I travel other than that I buy original : )

Now *that's* a good reason to buy a clone. :)
I went to a baseball game recently and I was like "Damn. I don't have anything to vape there!" I wound up bringing my Puresmoker Icon but even that I kept checking my pocket to make sure it was safe.

. . . .

Having said that, I have no such illusions about an ELA clone. The ChELA will not have rhodium plated contacts. It will not be given the intense attention that David personally gives his genuine ELA for fit and finish. It won't have a lifetime warranty. It will not offer any aspect of what makes an ELA the best mech. I don't believe the ELA can be cloned.

I don't think it can either, certainly not with all the bells and whistles. They might succeed at making it look similar on the outside, but that will be about it. The locking ring? Doubtful. The mechanics of the adjustable center pin? Not a chance. Rhodium? Ain't gonna happen. The incredible button? Yeah, right. I'll be surprised if this clone ever sees the light of day. If it does, it will be a hilarious failure.

Now I'm curious as to how many of the pre-orders, if any, went (or will be going) to China. They would have to have one to even attempt to clone it.

LOL I can't even remotely believe David would willingly send one off there. Then aqain he seems to be the sort if you have the cash, there you go. Interesting question.

I think the Vision Eternity was China's attempt at cloning a Mark-T Infinity by looking at a picture. That's one I did buy just to compare - EEEKS!

It's kinda like buying a disposable camera lol. Rather it be a $25 hit than a $200 to $400 w/atty device lol.

As quality and features go up, costs go up. As cost goes up availability goes down. This is already happening with clones of clones.

(Full disclosure: I bought a Terminator because I didn't know if I wanted an Odysseus. Turns out I didn't - I liked it at first, but it ended up a love/hate relationship).

SuperT has made an investment in ensuring quality and availability that few (if any) others have.

One advantage I see in clones popping up is that it might provide an avenue for accessories or replacements that might not be readily available from Super-T. I'm thinking different size/material accent rings, alternative button conversion kits, various top caps, etc. Some people like personalization in their PVs and clones may provide a way for authentic ELA owners to do just that.

I like your analogy, throw away camera vs camera and high end camera. I think of it like this, after working 20 years in the photo finishing industry, Ive seen people with throw aways take amazing photos in the way that the composition and lighting and subject matter was amazing but the film quality and ability to enlarge was limited.

Then I saw the opposite, people with LEicas, Hasselblads etc that took awful mediocre shots. THey would come in with under/over exposed shots and would complain to us that we did something wrong in the printing or film processing because they shot them bad. We would get statements like : theres no way they could be badly shot, I use a Hasselblad and the most expensive film?!!!!

The best equipment in the wrong hands will still give you the same result as a cheap set up. And a cheap equipment in the right hands will give you the same result as expensive ones.

WOW, I guess I slept thru alot, I didnt know about the ChELA till I read back a couple pages. WOW. I love how they use the photo of the actual product they found online.

Im sure there are vast differences between the original and the copy. To some it will be apparent to others the only thing that matters is that it "looks" like something "cool" and expensive.

People have the right to spend money and to make money. THe ones making the money off the copies obviously dont care and will do it because they can. Putting all moral issues aside, If it turns out to be a decent vape than good to the people that buy it. Most people are frivolous and like to have many items and things to go with their mood. They will use the copies a while and it will then go in a drawer or sold. Some will be bought and re-invented and modded and be good devices.

I dont condemn nor condone copies, for some it is monetary but a lot of those that claim its because they cant afford the real have dozens of clones, so where is the savings. ITs fun to them to play with different things.

It does egotistically bother me to see a copy, but again its because I like having "special" things that are well made, and after all I do have the real thing and It will last forever and the copy will not come close to the finish and quality the ELA has.

I'm with you.

I've never understood the use of a kick myself. Either go with a VV/VW device, or build a coil to suit your mechanical's voltage. A kick seems to defeat the purpose of going mechanical. Maybe I'm missing something???

Can't fault that logic, for me the reasons were a little less obvious. First, unregulated is the mode I'll be in most of the time - particularly when on foot out and about. But, for $45 you can have both and maybe have a little fun seeing what a little power tweak does with your current coil setup. Also, if you look at the devices with built-in VV/VW out there, in my humble opinion the appearance doesn't hold a candle to the ELA or many of the high end straight mechanicals (again, my subjective opinion). Nor can you switch to an "authentic" mechanical with those devices even if you wanted to. For me the decision became trivial when another $40 will get you the Kiklet* which is a perfect fit with the Precise/ELA products. You can go reg/unreg with a quick screw-on mod SOLD!

Disclaimer, if I see the word SALE - I own it!
Whatever else I have to buy to make it work is of no concern lol.

For the most part, I agree with you there. The one area I wouldn't mind is the top accent ring -- if its made to spec, has decent build quality, and the proper material is used, I wouldn't hesitate to throw one on my ELA (especially if it was just a tad longer than the stock ring). It's just not something we can get anywhere else, including the original manufacturer. Now if it was some kind of functional piece like a button? Yeah you'd probably have to pay me to try one out and even then, I doubt I'd use it for long.

Hi all,

Received my ELA but quite surprised that the finishing for satin is exactly the same as the old P+ "sand-blast" finishing.
Scrolled a couple of threads in here and saw that anavidfan's satin ELA is very nice but mine is not as what I've expected.

Is there any possibility to sand off the finishing to get it to satin finish?

I dont have a satin finish yet. On mine I had the satin accent rings on the polished. If you want to get a polished finish I was told you could do it but with some work, autosol should remove it, but again, unless you are really gutsy, or have experience in doing that I would leave it to professionals such as the service of Justin at Vape n shine. He is very reasonable for the amazing quality he does. ( facebook )

Yours looks so beautiful, hard so say which finish is more beautiful/ better? Satin does make finding matching toppers to go with a little harder.

Thats why I was really frivolous and ended up ordering a Satin also.

Why even attempt it? If you like the polished/brushed look better, just trade with someone. The since the satin version is not currently being offered (and hasn't been for a little while now), there will be more than a few people willing to swap with you.

A few posts back, Cucco was saying that she didn't get a satin when she had the chance...
