Has anyone ordered the double polished that you know of, and posted pics? Did you think about getting the double polished yourself, if you were expecting a rough finish.... I'm about to pull the trigger on this lil guy .......

The double polished is not available on the ones I ordered. It was always grayed out, I also wouldn't want to do it on the internals. From what I read they warn that it can take a decent amount of material off and I'd worry about parts still fitting together correctly. The polished is good enough, and I can always sand the outer shell and top cap if I want it a little smoother.

The chrome plating is interesting, but a little too much for me. I was planning on sending mine out to be Cerakoted, but OCD mods (who I was going to send them to) just had a fire that wiped out garage/shop and I have no clue when he'll be back in business.

Anyone know an company that does inexpensive Cerakote painting/baking?

Got my Peko from Sculpteo.com. This is the one they didn't cancel. White polished. The internals were a little tight sliding in, but the finish is pretty nice. Not nearly as rough as I was expecting from pictures.

Now all I need is parts. So excited!!

Kentastic, that looks like a really nice print. Your white polished internals were tight? or does it just have a little resistance?

I'm not sure if this finishing idea has brought up before, but I've been looking at these finishes and remembered a CHROMING SYSTEM that I almost bought into to. Its spray on chrome, non toxic and the results are truly unbelievable and a great variety of color preferences. There's another company for you 1% er's that does real gold plating (cosmic gold, I believe) on plastic or whatever, I've seen a picture of chromed deer antlers (? Whatever? ) in the 3 step process there's an actuating step that fills in rough surfaces and preps material for the product.
Here's a picture of a piece of ceramic tile ((10 years old, and scuffed up) but that goes to the resiliency of the finish)) that was sent to me along with their literature:

The link is a series of videos showing the process. I think that this beautiful mod is begging for a finish like this. There are different finishing processes. I know that there is a flexible chrome finish that would be perfect for your creations either the dna or the Mech......in my case definitely BOTH! 
I've seen hydrographics but not this
Check this out!

Chrome would be interesting... any idea on pricing?

Online pricing for Cerakote is about $35-40 for similar size parts which is about the same $ as Hydrodipping.

I'll look into it Monday! Also this chrome doesn't add very much material at all so it shouldn't throw off the tolerances.....

Though this chrome finish could look pretty spectacular, I am almost certain that plastic needs to have a copper layer first. Many years ago I had a system like that for model car parts and after some lengthy prep work, copper needed to be plated on the plastic first. Then you could plate it with chrome. Real chrome that is. If this company uses something that just looks like chrome but is not, the process could be very different though.

Cheers.

No no no happy jk....... Copper is needed when chroming a metal surface check out the video via the link provided (first or second video=description) its a 3 step process and it looks as if the part to be chromed actually takes a bath in these chemicals which are NON toxic! Very innovative process! It was conceived because of all the restrictions and bans on the traditional process using copper (but that was on metal anyway) this process has been around for a long time the automobile industry had the technology and someone came up with a condensed mobile version of what the auto industry does on a grand scale chroming emblems, lettering, interior door handles etc.... for vehicles.

It was a little too tight, but I don't think I'd want it to be not tight enough. When I got it I couldn't slide the internals in more than an inch no matter how I tried. I finally grabbed some 300 grit sandpaper and sanded along the rails a little and got it to slide more and more, but then I worried I'd take off too much so I stopped and just started using the friction of sliding it in and out to wear it down. Now it's more like a little resistance. If I slide the internals in all the way to the bottom, I have a hard time getting it back out, but I figure that will loosen up after I have everything together and start using it. Plus the top cap will be glued on and so I'll have something to grip. I have not yet sealed anything.

i'm definitely impressed with the quality of the print. The little extra cost of polished is so worth it. The only reason to get the non-polished is if you are wanted the absolute cheapest mod you can buy and are prepared to do a lot of work getting everything to fit nicely.

Now I just need to figure out what I'm going to do finish wise. There is a local company near me that does Hydrodipping, but I'm worried that it's going to either come out cheap looking or look great but feel sticky the way painted plastic sometimes does.

It will definitely loosen up. We noticed this during the Beta Test. V1 seemed great at first. It had just the right resistance from the tight fit. Then after we were using them a little bit, the topcap/internals could be shaken out easily. This is from a self smoothing effect as the parts rub against each other. Thats why 1.1 now has the magnets.

The Camo one I posted earlier has a hydodripped surface. Its not sticky and its smooth to the touch. I dont think it looks cheap at all. Its just a different look.

This is the company I used. The owner was very responsive and his work is quality. He said if anyone is interested that they can give him a call. His name is Eric..good guy. Unique Hydro Graphics - Get Dipped!!! Your one stop shop for Custom HydroGraphics to make you truely UNIQUE!!

That doesnt look too bad in the picture???? Metallic plastics prints smoother than color plastics. Black plastic doesnt come polished so you get some print lines, so actually, the print looks pretty good. :) Be careful if you sand it. The dye is not very deep. If you want it smooth, take care of that with a clear coat.

Shapeway order is here and sculpteo order scheduled to arrive monday even tho sculpteo order was put in 5 days after shapeways order :)

Yea it looks better in pic. than real life :)
Print lines are not the problem discoloration is .... Top cap and body blacks dont match top cap is lighter , at body ; middle part is darker than sides and corners but it didnt bother me too much and clear coat should smooth those color differences little bit i hope....
But i cant believe how nice metallic plastic came out if i order one more ill do metallic plastic for sure....
Overall size and feel of the mod is great im glad i got into this thanks everybody who made this possible , especially gdeal [emoji106]
