Hey dudes, just checking in. Im at about 50ml on this 2ohm, now 2.1 ohm coil. The wick was clean and nothing was burned, it was very gunky around the coil. I decided to dryburn and now it tastes funky. It performs great, justs tastes nasty. I probably burned the rubber or something. PT2 ceramic experiment is OVER. 50ml on one coil is not worth the money or trouble. I'll be trying ceramic in my hated kayfun next.

How can you like a ProTank over a kayfun? Shallow juice channels in the Kayfun or some other issue?

This was my last build before I got a new base with deeper channels, vaped like a champ...so much more flavor than a ProTank.

easy.

I can fill a protank without silly screws or leaking by filling from the top cap. If I burn my wick I can change a coil without dumping a tank. I do take my devices outside of my house and still consider my PV an ecig for all intents and purposes. I want longevity from my devices, and I want them to be as easy to use as a lighting up a smoke... Even though I was using a kicked mech mod, the wattage wasn't crazy and I reduced my juice intake to about 3ml a day from 5-7. Daily wick changing is not for me. Messy drippers are not for me. If I could vape PG juices without allergies I would switch back to carto tanks in a heartbeat.

I've looked into getting a dripper with a DEEP well like the origen or magma or something, but in reality I want a giant a7 atomizer. It has a "straw" tube airhole thing that makes leaking a little bit difficult.

the longest lasting wick in my kayfun was a 1.5mm 1.8ohm 30g microcoil. The cotton lasted about 25ishml and it was glorious. edit: like 4-5 days of vaping on the same cotton.

I agree with t.d. I bought an original Kayfun Lite Plus, thinking it would be vaping heaven. Well, turns out it wasn't the best of friends with my undisputed favorite juice, Grant's Vanilla Custard.
Anything above 3.5 volts on a 2 ohm coil and it would taste either like burning or metal - and no, it wasn't a short, it was just how it was.
And at 3.5 volts, I wasn't getting enough flavor, compared to my PT2's.
A handful of coils and several ml's of precious juice wasted (fearing it would be contaminated with the crappy flavors I got), and the sum'b**ch went up for sale.

Back to my beloved PT2's, ah, vaping heaven again :)

Having a lot of fun with a cheap, slutty IGO-L "Style" RDA from SlowTech these days though. GVC tastes great with a parallel 1.2 ohm coil at 4.2 volts (ProVaris amp limit kicks in if I go higher).

And here's a pic of my big ol' 12x2 wrap Kanthal A-1 30 AWG coil:

I respect and understand your stance.

I will take any slight inconvenience for the massive improvement in flavor, I primarily use an RDA at home and a Russian while out and about. Wick changes happen less frequently than on a ProTank for myself.

I loved my ProTanks but after moving forward it's simply not possible to move backwards, the flavor is all wrong.

Hi Mac,
That study comes from the oldest and most respected cancer research institute in the USA, here in Buffalo. After reading it, I am sticking with my protanks and limiting the power to 7 watts.

Did you read the published study itself, or the NYT report on it ? I thought the complete study hasn't been published in a medical journal yet.

Haven't made up my mind as of yet, waiting to read the study in its entirety. Keep in mind also, that formaldehyde is just one out of dozens of carcinogens in cigarette sm0ke. All of them put together are likely not as harmful as tar. Just to put things in perspective.

Not gonna lie. I've been dripping heavily lately and haven't used a bcc or pro tank in over a week. Dripping had lead to the dreaded vapers' tongue... but the coils I'm wrapping are getting to be perfect tensioned coils. Thank you all. Just figured I'd drop in since I haven't posted in a while, though I have shared the link in the MVP 2 thread which has brought some more people to this knowledge!

Sent from my Galaxy Note 3 via Tapatalk.

Thanks brook. We're starting finally to build a small community of our own here. Full of awesome vaping technologists!

Good luck all.

:)

Always thought the protank 2s I use never tasted quite right. Just got in a pack of silicone insulators from LightningVapes and wow what a difference. I even dry burned the coil and still have a great clean taste.

I hope they are right for you and your building style. The silicone doesn't hold precision tension and the leads slip skewing the coil with torque as you screw on your topper. Pop out hangers faster than a teen does pimples. However, LV's hard silicone grommets are exceptional. Actually denser than Kanger's original PT1 grommets of which I still have a few. They hold termination and accordingly resistance like none before….after several dozen tests. Verified.

The only difference pj is that the soft silicone does not taste as badly as imperfections in the coil scorches it. It still does, you just won't taste it. One time use throwaways. They effectively discourage rebuilding. But then of course they know that over there. As well as the 510 clearomizer's propensity for shorting. Hence NR wire.

Hey at least they gave us the Aero base.

Take care pj and good luck.

I read the earlier Buffalo News article and it differed somewhat, NYT tends to spin the articles to the liberal side. If I know Roswell Park Cancer Institute, there will be reams of data.

There's definitely something to be said for caution. However, I believe their methodologies were wrong and comparisons apples-and-oranges. We exhale formaldehyde naturally. I don't believe the average vaper is exposed to levels of any of these minute traces that are meaningful in any study I've read. Comparisons to smoking are even more ludicrous. Let's talk real world. I think we expose ourselves to far more toxic hazard leaving the vaping comfort of our living rooms to travel the public thoroughfares. At least I can enjoy my vape while I'm out there. I'm not goin' Amish anytime soon.

:)

Good luck.

well, they used an ego twist, and apparently they measured formaldehyde release at 3.2 and 4.8 volts. Didn't mention what the resistance of the atty was, or what type of atty, whether the wicks were saturated properly at 4.8 volts etc... We need more studies from our side of the industry imo. People who know the mechanism of vaping assisting the scientists in controlled studies is crucial. Real life scenarios need to be created, not theoretical ones

Mac, have you rebuilt an aerotank coil ?

No I haven't. Despite my technical curiosity I've no desire to reward their efforts to hide their winds from the public with my cold hard cash.

Although I must admit NR wire is responsible given the circumstances.

Good luck.

This is my sentiment exactly, more eloquently conveyed.
