Hi. I got my Protege as a gift. Is there a way to tell what version it is. Does the switch have a ser # or something?

I believe all V1.1's have a hole drilled into the endcap.

Upgrades from V1 to V1.1 Include:

1) New 3 Piece Adapter - Completely Stainless Steel - No Brass. Adapter *canal* has also been downsized and not as deep.
2) Locked In Place Mechanical Switch (Completely Stainless Exterior - No Plastic Showing) [Button Housing and Button = Stainless Steel]
3) Larger Thread Pitch on End Cap

Wow, thanks for that info. Evidently I have a V.1. It has the brass 901 connector in the center of the head and a deep well. Also the endcap threads are fine threads. And the battery end has no hole in it.
I must have a new button because it is all stainless steel. No plastic.

Thanks for the help.

Should I order new switches/buttons? Or is there maintenance that helps them connect better? Do I need to clean them?

Whatever mechanical switch you have should last you forever.

The only thing(s) that may ever "wear out" on the mechanical switches would be the contact posts (from pitting) and the copper washer (from continually sanding it down).
As for the old original electrical switches, they create more of a problem as they require soldering and replacement of the tact switch on a more regular basis.

I don't think Steve will mind if I post Curtis' video on "how to care for you PS switch" here....

This is a great feeling mod. Light and fits nice in the hand. I hope you like yours. If you don't, PM me. I know someone who will take it off your hands. :)

Yeah, me too. It seems to require a lot of pressure or a rocky motion to get it to hit. I'm not sure what maintenance is required. I'll check out the website to see if there's anything. If anyone here knows, feel free to chime in. Thanks

edit... found the cleaning procedure on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1UelOlVcy0
