I have had to go through a lot of verification for employment through out my life. First through the military when I needed security clearance and as of late, full background, fingerprints, everything as a nurse. Giving someone my email address I use for Paypal is not a big deal. Especially when they already have it. I am more comfortable buying, selling and even talking to people who have been verified as a real. I guess big brother can suck but, so can some anonymous jacka55 who wants to lace my carts with strychnine for fun.

I would rather sacrifice a bit of privacy for a bit of safety.

Before someone asks why I am not verified but supporting the process, I am just waiting for my verification to be complete. I am not being hypocritical... Well at least not today. :)

Depending upon your method of choice, you will most likely be verified today, barring no issues. I've caught up and will start processing current request here shortly. So you probably can be hypocritical today :D

Hmm. Well as a brand new member I just read the info on verification yesterday. Personally I was impressed that the system exists here, and that there are multiple easy ways to get verified that don't really require supplying a bunch of personal info. Once I reach the post count all I had to do is show that I'm verified with PayPal... by supplying my email address. Seems pretty uninvasive to me. Well worth it to get in on some deals for new hardware!

All up in your grill..
To me this read like:

"Hello! I am a random anonymous person. Although my credentials are not available for you to see, I am here to tell you how to better run your business! You don't know me and you never will but I want you to know that I am very upset that you would like to know me. You better wise up because there are a lot of other people. (Who you you don't and won't know) who will also be upset about this. So in conclusion, you should be concerned about the feelings of anonymous strangers, even though if you did change your rules to appease them you wouldn't know they were appeased, if in fact they exist at all. Thanks and have a great day."

Please tell me this was supposed to be a joke.

To me, worrying about a cop some how getting a hold of your info from ECF, is phracking crazy.

I don't know any of my online vendors that personally. Few emails here and there, but I don't invite them over for the game and give em a brew. But I have given them my personal information and apparent access to my debit card.

IMO it just seems like unnecessary paranoia.

As is, it seems to be the only true way to verify a member to any true capacity. IMO the verification is a good step (and an easy one at that). Though I'm not certain how much it helps if something does go awry...it may just help prevent a person who wants to behave badly from even registering.

If ECF was served papers to give up personal information to a law enforcement agency we would comply as it is the law. Of course the info we have could be found by any 9 year old with internet access so I doubt even the least competent law enforcement agency would bother subpoenaing us.

We have yet to be served papers, but I'll wager a bet that if we were the person is up the creek without a paddle because the investigators are just tying up loose ends and building enough evidence to make an airtight case with no chance of reasonable doubt.

I'm really not going to worry about my personal information being avalible. Truthfully if a court of law were to issue a warrent to obtain information then likely it would be just confirming what they already know (Your name, address, city, state...ect) which can be found in your local telephone book. As a side note you can also find out what your ebay username is just by doing a google search for <real Name> ebay username. Typically this works (I've forgotten my username a lot of times on ebay, use this method to retreve it).
The main issue here is that really truthfully Personal information is just an illusion to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside just like door locks are only to make you think that your house is safe. I put faith in knowing the truth, and the truth shall set you free :)

When I got my cell phone the form asked if I wanted to be listed and I said no. My info is not listed in any phone book. I searched the white pages online also and I'm not there. I just didn't want to become a phone-target for telemarketers.

I just believe that even though the information is trivial it is something that does not need to be distributed to the world, thus my protest message. You may have other beliefs and I respect that.
