Gotta agree with Qorax on that. Swappable batteries are nice to have. Most of the time, I'm somewhere near a charger, but not always. I'm in the Army, and there are times when swappable batteries are almost a must, particularly airborne ops. When doing a jump, I know I'll be living out of my pockets and rucksack for at least 12 hours.

Of course, I could always throw an external USB battery in my rucksack, but taking a couple charged 18650s is more convenient for me.

BOOM!

Unfortunately buddy with the XPV it is not going to happen. Protovaper will not be taking any efforts to make it realtime swappable. They told me: "Hi there, this would require a complete redesign of the mod (and the process of building it) so it is not feasible with the current design. We are sorry we cannot do it". So with that my quest for a XPV-40 is over :(

The only down side I see with the XPV battery is if you have to reset the DNA. The OHM checker stuck on mine again for the second time. I opened it up the first time to unplug it. This time I put my .5 ohm dripper on it at the end of the day and ran it down that way. And let me tell you getting the VCT5 down to the reset point of the DNA30 takes some doing.

Swappable batteries isn't a deal breaker for me. Something that would be nice, but it's understandable to not have it included. Honestly, if it had swappable batteries and not USB charging, I'd be wishing for that.

I have an IPV2, which has USB charging and swappable battery (though it's a pain with those tiny screws). Also have a Sigelei 100w, with swappable batteries (easy-peasy with magnetic back), but no USB charging. I still use them both, but wish they could have some kind of freaky love-child and combine the best of both worlds.

The Sigelei is my daily use device, and it'll stay in rotation when I know I'll need plenty of battery life. Dual 18650s in the mod and two in the pocket will last me... Well, I don't know - rarely gets below 60% on a full day of vaping, even when sticking with 35-40 watts all day. Not too pocket friendly, though - with dual 18650s, it has some weight, and it's a straight up box. Probably the most boring (aesthetically) device I've ever used. Oh, and the 510 adjustable pin is garbage, at least on the initial version.

BOOM!

Yep, BTDT with my DNA20 XPVs and DNA30 boards are similar. However based on certain observations of the DNA40, I suspect it does a true reset when you hit the fire button after it's been left untouched for more than about an hour, when it seems to power itself off. My guess is they're shutting off the MOSFET used for reverse battery protection at that point. Hence I would expect this issue to be self-correcting at the end of the every day on an DNA40 powered XPV. Thing is, my only DNA40 mod does not have a built-in charger, which means I do have to swap batteries in it and haven't noticed the ohm reading getting stuck.

@Bassnorma - Use 28 guage Ni. It's thicker and less likely to go nutz! Clean and wrap. No more and no less :)

Good luck!

But.....dual coils? Seems like it would be a ridiculous number of wraps....is there a 28 g around a 3 mm is 22 wraps for .16....I need to see how much that would crowd the deck...just seems like a lot. If I go to .1, it is a bit more reasonable at 14 wraps....I will try that after I calm down.

My last nerve does not have the tensile strength of bridge suspension cable....Lol...and nickel is dangling on it....

And then I think.....for me dual coils are wasted on a tc device. Because I know I will set my temp to 400-450 to protect myself from the high temp uglies....so while it will use more watts to power the coils, the vape warmth will be the same and I will have used more power and undergone more aggrevation just to get to the same temp....other than bragging rights, I don't see the point.

Dual k coils at .8 are a sweet spot for me anyway and the xpv delivers that beautifully.

You will love it Chris!

I was on the fence for quite a bit, and had my finger on the order button quite a few times. My problem was the hard-to-replace-battery, but I overcame my fears. It looks like a real solid device, and this thread pretty much sold it for me.

I only wish I'd pulled the trigger sooner.

@Bassnorma - AND who says you MUST hit .2 or .1 ?? Using your dual coil MONSTER? As you say later, it may in fact be an exercise in futility for some so think single. :)

Don't get me wrong, if you want to experiment then that's fine but YOU have your "buds" and I have mine so I respectfully think that's all that matters. Guidance is fine but "MUST" is not in my playbook. /lol /haha

Dual coils = double surface area, double wicking capability.

Of course, it also requires twice as much airflow and power. There's certainly a reason for duals. Logically, simultaneously hitting two atomizers will result in more vapor and flavor.

I take your point, though. I pls on trying out some dual coils on a Magma when the XPV gets here. Probably won't be fun, and I may decide to just use the temp protection on the Erlprinz.

BOOM!

Im sorry but with all the great features of the XPV imo, on board battery should not be a deal breaker... I dont even come close to wearing down a vtc5 at 20watts in a whole day at work. I have a Bolkin S100 2600mah powerbank that is no bigger than a 18650 for going camping and s**t like that. That's all you need!

Amen to that SeniorBoy...I didn't think I was breaking any universal vape laws nor am I full of shame for not wrapping dual tc coils...LOL...I vape to be happy and be smoke-free not to compete with anyone else's experience. I am glad you see it that way too....;)

For me attempting the duals at all was a point of curiosity. As I said, when my patience raises; I may try again. But the way I vape, it doesn't matter either way. And I am REALLY enjoying the higher watts on the K duals now. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about it....:p

The VF arrived today....love it and yes, still love my XPV just as much really. Both are high quality and equally lovable.

How have you guys liked the temp control so far? I think it's good, but could be better. I've had it not fire because the temp control was kicking in, even when wick was super saturated. I know i can get it down to almost dry because I've sat here vaping it just to try and get a dry hit. Only solution I've found is to reattach atty, and then you have to wait for it to cool down to reattach, which is no bueno when i'm driving to work in the morning.

Also, I've taken an atty off and attached a new one and didn't get a prompt for new/same coil, it seems to happen at random. Anything I'm missing here?

I'm currently building with 28ga ni200, 12 wraps around 3.5mm rod. comes to .1 ohm. I want to use 30ga but its super light and i keep messing up the coils when it's time to re-wick. What are you guys doing fro your builds?

Hmm I don't have my XPV yet #1348 ordered on 10/31, but unless its something inherent to the XPV, my DNA40 Flask doesn't do that; stop firing when TP signal comes on.
It hardly skips a beat, but I try to match temp and watts so that it gives me enough oomph.
If I i.e. set my single coil (3mmID, .22 Ohms, 30g Ni200, 10wraps contact (not perfect), at 470 degrees, and 10w, the TP will not come on.
Its a nice mellow smooth vape.
I prefer to set it at 20w (same 470 degrees) for a bit more performance, and it will hit the TP sign after a few seconds (which is a normal draw for me). Of course if I'm chain vaping TP will come in sooner, but I still get a very good vape nonetheless. I keep firing and don't notice much of a lag if any.

Just tried my orchid with dual coils spaced 12 wraps 3mm bit 30ga on the orchid... Reading 0.17 ohm ... 400 deg at 27 watts ...Rayon with no wick in the channels ... Vast improvement on flavor and consistency!

It's it a clone or original? Mine is a clone and the post screws are rough.

I am glad it works for you hees.

However, I am done discussing dual coils on nickel. I got aggravated and that is it for now.

When I want flavor I grab my reo....Lol...besides the rest of my builds taste just fine as is.

A clone with grub screws... I also have a clone with Phillips screws... Grub screws have more of a shearing effect...

Don't give up brother! I believe in u!
