The flu vaccine is always a gamble. They (whoever they are) try to predict which strain or strains will be dominant in a given year and then inoculate against those. When they guess wrong--and they do from time to time--that season's vaccine is useless.

I'm not against all vaccinations, mind (an aunt of mine had polio as a child; just as pleased never to have had to worry about that). But the flu vaccine has never tempted me.

I wouldn't mind a polio shot NOW personally. The CDC has a live strain.

I am pro vaccine. They work. They should be available. They are one of the few like, GOOD things medicine has produced. The CDC sucks yeah but really... lDK. Maybe they didn't always.

Did you knw there was a freaking LYME disease vaccine created that WORKED only the antzi's like, GOT so up in its grill they took it off the market because everyone was AFRAID?

That's AWFUL. If you don't believe in childhood vaccinations that's one thing but they should be available to those who want therm.

I personally believe that removing foreskins is a little more invasive (and POSSIBY lower risk although that was that high profile case where the rabbi cut off so much the kid was made into a girl, and HENCE the alphabet people took off....

I somehow thought that if my son wanted his foreskin removed he would like let me or someone know at some point and we could get that taken CARE of for him, but he seems fairly attached to it.

They do forskinectomies over lunch at my work. Those are the lunches where I LAVE the premises. Just. NO.

I said zero things about how happy that chick looked with that vape. I most certainly did not even inquire if it came in different COLORS even.

    Nope.

@Topwater Elvis I know you were being funny. But I still have to choose between like, pinkeye and CANCER.

That seems wrong and seriously I am sure they kill other things besides pinkeye.

But like, I'd take the bovine shot almost. I mean, surely they have LESS virulent ones for the chick who doesn't want like, GLASSES.

To be fair though, if I can catch pinkeye, I can catch ANYTHING so maybe I just keep at it.

And OMG to my horror, like we were getting trained in the flu vaccine did you know the older you get,the less well it WORKS? How can this BE???

I'm at like 57% I think or something, like it doesn't seem fair. I anted to ask I f you could get, like a series to up your ODDS, but I was scared the docs would like, laugh at me, dude. Yeah, I am a "provider" like a medical provider so I go to the meetings but I TRY to shut up mostly.

Dood just one more way life seems to discriminate against the elderly.

Yeah I better use the cancer wipes. LOL

    Anna
They have a stronger dose flu shot now. They said IF your doc recommends it, you need to get that one. I got the regular one.

I hadn't had a flu shot in maybe 20+ years, until last year.
I knew someone who died from the flu, or complications. (winter 2017)
He was elderly, and definitely considered to be in the "at risk" group, but still was sad.

Last year, when I'd gone to the Dr. for my normal check up/blood work, he asked if I'd gotten one.
He's *always* been totally fine with me not getting them, but last year, he very sternly told me to be sure to get one.
Seems the strain that would have gone around in 2017 was not just prevalent with at risk groups, he said otherwise healthy, young people were dying.
He said the virus, in simple terms, just liquified their lungs, and no matter what they threw at it, nothing helped.
He didn't said it was the most horrible, helpless feeling for those trying to treat the patients.

The flu vaccine I received last year didn't have the live virus/strain (can't think what's it called at the moment), so no side effects.

I'll get another this year, although I think I had a mild flu over Labor Day weekend.

ETA: I had H1N1 several years ago. Was awful, thought I would die with that, and at the time going through it...didn't even care.:lol::lol:
Probably would have if I'd lived alone, but thankfully DH made sure I had soup and liquids...no way I could function to have done it for myself.

The flu (A AND B) was really bad last year. My emporium of doctors are instructed to tell people, "Kids have died from the flu." Sometimes they get a bit flustered and say, "Your child could die from the flu."

Then we get a complaint. I mean, it is technically true but I don't enter every room I go into and say, "Your child MAY be stricken with schizophrenia!" Or "If you do not start like, Prozac now, your child may commit suicide and you will feel HORRIBLE."

I mean... So many things you could say. "Your child MAY catch HIV if it keeps up with the unprotected sex!" "Your child MAY die while crossing the road, etc. etc." I mean, you'd be there ALL day plus raising a damn kid is traumatizing enough.

There is a strong recommendation, and then there is VOODOO medicine.

I guess the y worry about lawsuits/hate that particular family (OH I HAVE BEEN THERE) but I try to keep my wits about me.

Cuz there can be too much personalization. Although it is indeed true we ALL must die, someday, and like, parents could just accept that, but they seem stricken with this emotional illness like "OMG what if my kid dies first?"

My reaction is going to be deep grief, followed by adopting his dog (EVERYONE would let me) and then I would like, get on with my life and be happy because I am sure he would want me to."

IDK. Don't get the flu although how nice to know I could be further protected and am NOT.

Really, I thought I was good. But when I figure in your age..

Bronze, if you ever move DOUBLE bubble wrap your nic in glass. I lost two 100 mils in a 92 mile ride.
That’s a big hit. I had one quart bottle of nic that didn’t fit in with the rest of my nic bottles in my freezer cubby so I boxed it up with foam peanuts at least 1-1/2” thick all around it. With people rifling thru that freezer all the time I wasn’t gonna take chances.

    Hope you have more nic.

Cancer doesn't usually hurt the bridge of your nose that much though.

That's my main beef. If one has worn increasingly like, coke bottle type glasses and they were HEAVY then I mean if you had really bad eyes, like, IDK you were I was shocked I didn't develop a permanent ski bump, really.

Yeah yeah they make them all light and delightful now or so I hear. IDK. I have a feeling cancer would suck but I could probably beat it.

    Going blind is kinda permanent.

I don't think I'd enjoy EITHER perhaps I need the cancer AND the glasses. Probably. My eye doctors are always lecturing me about how I can't leave my (gas permeable so I don't see why not) contacts In for weeks on end like when I was a youth.

Of course, eye doctors have been wrong about my eyes since like age 8 when they REALLY went through a rough patch and like, they were like ," You should learn braille."

I was like, "Oh so I'm going blind eh? Is it possible to learn braille once your are blind? If so I'd rather enjoy like looking at stuff you know, and do the braille thing when I AM blind."

Let's face it I just hate optometrists. Every last one of them. Even the one who gave me like 17 free boxes because "they will expire" per his receptionist. I just knew he was hoping I would change them m ore often, and I felt beholden to do so. Yeah, he was a real soul stealer, that one.

Sorry it's just like I have (inherited unfixable) night blindness, I am NEAR sighted since a LONG time and now getting FAR sighted which I do not appreciate. AT ALL. Also, I had a lazy eye and back then the treatment was not surgery but going to the eye doctor three days a week until you could bring a pencil slowly to your nose and it did not turn into TWO pencils EVEN for a second, until it reached your nose. I think surgery is unnecessary personally but they just LOVE to operate on your eyes nowadays.

My vision plan pays for 900 worth of lasic but that is a third of the cost and I have heard the stories about lasic… It doesn't last and they suck you in.

The husband is bringing burger king for dinner. I am happy. I have done LITTLE of productivity today.

Plastic rimless glasses are super light. My nose was crushed in a mugging many years ago and after they set it I was told to wait a year and they would go up under the skin and file down all the irregularities after I healed. I never went back and glasses are an adventure to sit straight comfortably. Soft silicone pads are the key.

Yeah. It's been decades before I have purchased and insanely expensive pair of glasses, which is my plan. If I have to wear them, they are going to be DOPE.

IDK. I did "see" me in glasses in pics and it didn't look that bad. But, I have a prescription that decreases the size of my eyes by like 80% due to my nearsightedness.

I have the best EYES they're hazel and ginormous! It makes up for my lack of lip action.

I suppose they don't look all that great red, weeping and swollen either. And the "YES, I have pinkeye but I SWEAR I have taken the drops for 24 hours I am not contagious speech" is no fun either.

Still. There has to be.,... Let's face it though I am too ADHD to be like the person who never gets pinkeye because they wash their hands every 2 minutes and their office every 10. It just...

Vanity, some deep Shakespeare quote. I love the big S and I can never quote him correctly except for that line, "The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth, like the gentle rain above onto the earth beneath."

And probably like misquoted it but it is an AWESOME quote. Also, I always here it and think, "Deep, Shakespeare, DEEP. And also, you hated the money lenders SO MUCH I bet you and your troop like went there ALL da time."
