I prefer the original, the vocals purer, and broader, and vocally of more control. Maybe it was my time. The harmony was strong, and the musical arrangement is more supportive.

It was the days of beginnings..Simon & Garfunkel - The Sounds of Silence (Audio) - YouTube

Not to say another isn't good or unique, just that the start is is where all things begin. I appreciate that.

I have to agree. I generally like the originals more than the remakes but there are some remakes I like more. This isn’t one of them.

How about this one - the songwriter's version or the cover?

I always liked the cover version of this, for a long long time, I did not even know it was a cover. When I finally heard the original, it just sounded wrong some how. :|

Springsteen’s “talent/appeal” completely evades me so I would enjoy the Bay City Rollers version more if they did one.

I was never really a big fan either. I don't think I have ever posted a clip of his before, this one is pretty good. There might be one or two more of his tunes, that I kinda-sorta like. :|

I learned on the remake. But, I think the remake was more commercially pushed. Looking back, I think the cover was much more of a polished presentation, whereas the original was just an excellently lyrical product.

There are a lot of evaluations to a song; lyrics, arrangement, vocals, presentation, etc. Manfred Mann really did a good job with someone else's lyrics.

Remarkable that Paul Simon wrote this when he was 19. At that age, I was trying to figure out how to fill a cup from the keg without getting too much foam.

Aimee Mann is a great vocalist, but I don't think very many people know about her.

I'm guessing Bronze may have already posted this, but since I'm so far behind that I'm about to lap myself, I say, "Aw, fugitol."

It always gives me a cause to pause, even if not for enough time. :|

But yes, the girl can sing. :thumb:

Anyone experiencing/using Microsoft Teams?

All (freakin') day and every (freakin') day.

They be trackin' us...

Great video, great arrangement, great story...maybe sadly.
Bruce Springsteen - Spare Parts (DVD Version) - YouTube

I used to cruise in my modified '68 Mustang back in the day...just a story that I can relate to...great musical arrangement for such a large band.
Racing in the Street (Live at The Paramount Theatre 2009) - YouTube

Two of my all-time favorites. Both often stopped me in my tracks.

Missed me, didja? ;)

All (freakin') day and every (freakin') day. :D ;)

OK, so not going completely off the rails but I think a few wheels might be wobbling. Goth Rock with a touch of rap, so not for everybody. But great songwriting, great melody, and every time the intro moves into the actual song I get a tingly spine. And one more tremendous female singer.
