Compatible with flat tops. What isn't said "compatible with button tops" or "compatible with both button and flat top batteries", leads me to believe Provari designed the space in the battery compartment and how the chip is held into place to fit only flat tops going forward.

That's kind of how I thought when I found no reference to both types in the manuals. But DPL says he uses 'both in both' and what Geeky says makes sense too.

I use both in both, FWIW. v2.5 and before are buttons only. I haven't tried a button in the Radius but it would probably work (IF it fits). Got flats. :thumb:
Button tops in the Radius is a no go! This will cause damage and the unit will fail to function properly with flat tops afterwards.

P.S. it might have been Anna who had to send one in to Bill for repair due to this issue, I remember it being mentioned here somewhere, but their is no way to contact her to ask now...

Good to know! Thanks, E!

I'd never have tried it only because that dayum battery cap is a PITA enough all by its lonesome... I've NO interest in wrestling with something just to see if it will work. That is a job for others.

Especially wrestling with inanimate objects.

P3 and Classics, I alternate between buttons and flats, never had a problem in several years of this usage.

:thumb: Thanks for 'input' on my question. From your answer and others I'm starting to feel more confident using either type in the P3 and Classic.

Never crossed my mind to use or even if it would work, to use a button top in a Radius.

I think by the time the Radius came out it was pretty clear the trend was toward flats. It was probably a no brainer to design it in the Radius.

I've used button tops in the Radius and then switched back to flats without any problems. It's a tight fit, however. Buttons work fine in the P3 too.

I thought it was odd that they'd cause failure in one, but work fine in another that has basically the same chip. Similar chips, at the very least.

If I spend too much time trying to figure it out, I'll just get a headache. Screw it. Vapin' on.

And it could be the height of the button. The button and area around it, look slight shorter on the 18650 Orbtronic than on the 18500 Efest and the 18350 MXJO.

I just ran into these AWs for 30% off when added to cart. I wonder what they'd be like.

Edit: Okay, these may not be part of the sale . But, still curious if they'd still fire up.

    I don't know.
I just wonder if that might put too much pressure on the chip/connector at the top positive end where the battery contacts the innards of the mods and damage the electronics. If that makes any sense.

Thank you! I'm worried about that too and was hoping someone had an alternative battery that was the same size of the old AWs. The nitecore was the only button top 18490 I have found so far. I love my many minis and want to keep using them like forever, well my forever:) The size difference isn't much, I have been using them for a bit and I don't screw the extension cap down tight, but...

I took some photos for a different thread that compared the AW with the flat tops, and the button made the battery just a tiny bit longer that the flat.
Who has the best prices for authentic batteries?

I just planned to save the AW's for my old Provi's and use the flats in my newer mods that were designed for them.

With the new shipping rules, the banning is sure seeming real this time. My state just raised the sales tax and added an excise tax to vape products, so I have been using the last of my old Blu tanks that were my "driving around gear." I wasn't willing to pay double for the packs of tanks. The old Provi 2.5's will likely be the replacements as long as the AW's keep running.

I recall that some used an o ring to fill the gap when a longer battery made the cap a bit short. That would help with pressure on the board.
