Mine was a Red Ford Maverick I paid $100.00 for, it was wrecked on 3 sides. The first day I drove it to school it died in the middle of a left turn, in front of a Nabisco truck. That wrecked the only good side, then after school it did it again, and got hit in the same spot, on the same day. I think I drove that car for about a year. Much later on I figured out why it was dying, the battery was not fastened down and was grounding out.

I learned how to work on cars with that Javelin because it was breaking down weekly. I believe I took that entire car apart and put it back together at least twice. It was a total piece of crap. Finally sold it. Ran into the guy I sold it to a year and a half later. He said the only thing he did to it was put a new battery in it.

my first set of wheels was one of these, same color, two stroke engine, that thing was quick off the line.

second set of wheels was one of these Yamaha 750CC Virago's, rode that thing back and forth from Woods Hole Coast Guard station to NH spring through fall. crashed it into the side of a mustang in Boston at an intersection, just before impact I launched myself from the pegs and flew over the top of that car.

Lost any desire to ride after that for about 15 years or so...

my dad was a die hard AMC fan, he had a Javelin, then some years later a green Gremlin, that was a fun car to drive, but it needed exhaust work about once a year LOL, I think he had two Matadore's over the years. Pretty sure he had the Chiltons book for each model, and the pages were well worn

AMC made some real crummy cars. Total junk heaps as soon as you drove them off the lot.

In 1962, I bought this 1960 Corvair, under the watchful eye of my father. It was not my first choice but it was nice in a Kansas blizzard. That and, of course, when I got in it, it became a chick magnet.View attachment 780863

My dad loved working on cars, and he loved the Corvair's, he would buy them repair them, and fix them up to sell them again. we always had some in the driveway. By the time I was ready to drive tho he had stopped doing that. :|

Yep, sometimes, ya get lucky...

Just missed getting clobbered by limbs any number of times. Fortunately you can hear them in advance so you know to head away from the sound.

Was sitting on the deck one day. A storm quickly moved in and the wind picked up big time. Thought I better leave. 10 seconds later a 10-foot branch about 3" in diameter came off a tree in the front yard and shot down the back slope of my roof and went right through the back of the chair I was sitting in. Just like a spear. Impaled it like it wasn't even there. I have a picture of it somewheres. That would have gone thru me like I was butter. One gets wise around here. Watch for falling limbs, flying branches, and glowing eyes at night while driving.

My father had a knack for picking good used cars. That Corvair lasted several years with only one major repair. I finally got out of high school and my graduation present was to bequeath the Corvair to my sister, I went to work and bought a used Ford Fairlane 2 dr hardtop (what a beauty), 4 speed, 289 with a four barrel. I later put one a new manifold and three two barrel carbs with progressive linkage. I have to add that I was not living at home when the two's went on. Back then, I could work on cars, today, oil, plugs, breaks and grease is the limit of my deteriorating skills.

I loved all my cars. :):)
I guess most people do - thus, so many songs about cars, lol.

None of these are my actual vehicles, but the years and colors are all ALMOST accurate.

First two were bought from Dad (72 Nova) and Mom (76 nova).
My '72 was "primer gray" - and I did add a single racing stripe, lol.
It did NOT have badass wheels, but sometimes, I'd leave the studded snow tires on - so when I stomped the gas and spun them, I'd throw sparks.

The Mazda needed tires and a alignment badly, but my boss who owned it thought it was something more serious, so he threw the pink slip into the pot at a poker game. I drove it for a couple years!
