I don't feel bad for steel's balls. Dogs that mark their territory everywhere suck. I realize you can train them out of it, but it's hard.

I did feel bad for our dog when we didn't neuter her right away. Man, dogs with balls materialized everywhere. They were... vocal. She got "attacked" when the husband put her outside on her chain "keeping an eye on her."

The neighbor's dog got super rapey at her. We had to go out there and beat him off with a stick. Literally. She had this really confused expression on her face, like "WTH is THIS NOW?"

The dog was also super ugly and the puppies would not have been what I had in mind. I also considered my kid's age and the fact that he would think SEVEN ugly puppies were SEVEN times greater than one.

We got her neutered the next day. While I will admit to a moment of sadness when she died, and we could have had New Dog 2 already in place.

Except, it would have been new dog EIGHT and I would rather be a crazy cat lady than THAT, and I'm allergic to cats.

Just now finished a five mile sprint around the neighborhood circle on my old Schwinn with lights. Was a lot of fun, there was an old couple walking their dog and each time I came around the circle I pedaled harder and faster to zoom by them at a blur! got my heart pumping pretty good for a spell there...the cool night air really felt nice.

I was listening to Christina Kateri covering the song Tennessee Whiskey to the making of the Declaration of Independence and the making of the Constitution. Well, I did have my vape. A good journey, I suppose.

just finished a batch of my "energy bars"
@ 3 cups nutz.com brown rice puffs
1.55 oz hersheys choco bar
3 TBSP Godiva cocoa powder
1/2 stick butter + a few glugs olive oil.
1/2 bag mini marshmallows

at med heat add butter and oil to melt in saucepan, add cocoa powder till incorporated, add Hershey milk choco bar till melted, add mini Mallows till melted...stir in 2 cups brown rice puffs...keep stirring and reduce heat to low...keep stirring and add brown rice puffs 1/3 cup at a time till it gets difficult to stir, keep stirring :lol:

try to now attempt to place sticky gooey mess into a buttered 8X11 inch glass pan, use a silicone spatule and swear a lot...get a metal spoon and scrape satule into pan making a huge sticky mess everywhere and swear some more...Kick the cat that is underfoot and smirk as it runs away. now press this gooey mess down nice and flat into the buttered pan with some waxed paper and chill. later when sober, cut up the pieces and individually wrap in waxed paper sealing each serving with a small tab of scotch tape.

Clean up the mess in the kitchen and fetch another glass of tequila...you desrerve it :D

we had a dog that had puppies when I was a kid, we couldn't keep them puppies and nobody wanted them, so we filled up a trash can with water and played the game...bonk 'em on the head...dunk 'em till their dead...we laughed and laughed and laughed at the fun of it all...till we cried later when we realized it was just a trick our dad was pulling on us... childhood really was such a special time ;)

Current lineup. Kind of like a rotation, except they're lined up ... in no particular order.

Only thing missing is a kayfun [Lite] 2019. Original isn't available anywhere. Nor are most of the original accessories for the different modes. I checked Creme de Vape and Origin Vape. SOooo I have a 24mm SXK KF Lite 2019 coming by slow boat along with accessories for Top Fill, Dome, Long Mode, Bell tank and Clear (PC) Window. At least I'll know my favorite set up if I like it and want the original ... whenever it becomes available again. The SXK KF will be the first 24mm I've tried and probably the only mod I have that it will look "right" on is the Dani Mini. Who knows, I may opt for a 22mm after trying out the 24mm. Dunno

No, this is not Steel, I just love the pic. Says it all about dogs, don't ya think?
Anyway, I appreciate the advice and concern regarding Steel's balls.
I have one more question to ask all of you. 5 daze after Steel is gelded, he turns 1 year old. I want to give him a boneless 8 oz. grilled sirloin for his birthday and for being a real trooper. The vet will never answer me when I ask about giving him steak and Jackie is against it because he'll be in recovery and she's afraid of him puking it up. Ok, I did relent and say if she's dead set against it, I'll wait until he's recovered.
Question is: Can anyone tell me if 8oz of cooked cow is to much for one adult boxer? I know we are not supposed to do that but geez, it's only once a year. So, is 8oz to much?
Thanks again! :thumb:

If you do give Steel some steak ... no salt, pepper, seasoning on it. Just plain steak and don't make a meal out of it, just a good little taste. I don't think that would be a problem. Dog food has beef, bison, salmon, whatever, all manner of fish and animal protein ... just not large quantities of "pure" protein modern domestic pets systems aren't accustomed to. A large amount of steak might upset his bowels for one thing. And believe me, you do not want Steel to come to expect human food. Just don't get started with that. And NO cooked bones ... ever.

Likely after surgery and as cats5365 mentioned, Steel will have to wear "the cone of shame". Cats gave excellent advice about the CoS. My miscreants have both had to wear the cone after surgery and they get used to it rather quickly. I did have to help them out at random times when they needed ears scratched or something they couldn't get to in the head and neck area. They always appreciated a good scratching and rubbing where they couldn't get to because of the cone. I also adjusted and fitted the cone so I could easily slip it off their heads every now and then but only when I had eyes constantly on them. Mostly I would slip it off when they were eating and I was standing right there the entire time. One other thing, the cone rides best when seated against a good fitting leather collar. The collar will help keep the cone from riding down the neck and into the shoulders area. The cone edge isn't very wide and collar keeps the cone from digging in as well as keeping the cone in a good position where they can't get their muzzle and mouth out around from and into the surgery area. As the surgery site heals and begins to itch a bit, you may find they are quite flexible, determined and bend-y, trying to get at the site.

Even if you THINK Steel isn't paying any attention to the surgery site nor do you THINK he won't try to get at the site and sutures ... Do Not take the cone off and leave him unattended. He WILL betray your THINKING and get at the surgery site. You will feel badly for Steel but leave the cone on at all times for however long the vet says it needs to stay on.

But who knows, maybe there is some kind of procedure where they do internal sutures and maybe he won't even have to wear a cone. One can hope.

The vet will likely give Steel some meds to give him for about a week to 10 days or so. Those meds might include something for pain, antibiotics and maybe an anti-inflammation drug. With Sugar, my suspicious finicky eater, I had to work out a technique where I opened her muzzle with one hand while tossing the medicine to the back of her throat with the other hand, where she was practically forced to swallow it. That worked out well for Sugar but may not work for all dogs and they have pill pockets to hide medicine in or maybe if medicating Steel is an issue, you could hide the medicine in a couple of spoonfuls of canned dog food on top of his kibble ... if that's what you feed.

Even the chewable medicine, I had to toss to the back of Sugar's throat or hide it in food. But with Mason, I didn't have a problem. He would take the chewable medicine and the medicine that isn't chewable, I just offer it to Mason from the palm of my hand and mixed with some bits of kibble ... or hide in some canned dog food on top of his kibble at his regular meal time.

I had Sugar's spay surgery done when she was about 7 months old and just before I thought she was going to come into her first heat. I wish I had waited longer, say until she was 18months to 2 years old and fully matured. I think that might have made her healthier and more structurally sound. Those hormones are important to growth and development. Mason had a large mast cell growth in his groin and it was medically necessary to neuter him in order to get good margins on the mast cell removal when he was about 7 years old. He never marked in the house and has been bomb proof about never messing in the house since he was a young pup. It's been a year or so since his neuter and he hasn't changed much. Actually, the only difference is that now he can never be bred of course. Everything else about him is about the same. I'm just super glad I waited to have him neutered. He fully matured with all his hormones and his growth was complete.

I'm retired and with my dogs 24x7. They are ALWAYS under positive control, from my backyard sanctuary that is enclosed like a prison compound to always having them on lead when out in public. They are NEVER allowed to free roam the neighborhood and they aren't escape artists. So it was that I never worried about accident litters and only wanted the best of health for them in making surgery decisions. Just wish I'd waited longer with Sugar.

I think that covers everything I can say about it and I'm sure Steel will be fine if you listen to and follow your vet's advice for recovery. Maybe I've touch on some things that you might need to discuss further with your vet. Good Luck !!! :)

I would only give a little piece of steak. Hobbs and others have given good advice about after surgery. I would like to add one thing that might make you feel better (Hobbs, too).....it doesn't slow their growth or make them less healthy to be neutered or spayed. It is done for obvious reasons but for one you might not be aware of: it helps prevent cancer. Unaltered dogs often get cancer by age 6 or 7.

The only time I am against it is when the dog is very small, I think it i too hard on them and have had bad experience with the under 10 pounders. I try to avoid surgery on the little ones unless absolutely necessary.

Do you enjoy cleaning up the Hershey Squirts? :nah: Giving him that much beef fat can cause all kinds of GI problems for Steel. A relative gave my dog (RIP) prime rib one year that it cost me a bunch of $$$ at the vet in addition to cleaning things up when I got home from work each day until her system was back to normal.

If you want to celebrate with him, I would just get a nice steak for you and share some bites of it with him. He might enjoy a new "big boy" bed and some toys from his Dad and Mom though.

Eat you up a coupe of T bones and give him the bones. it will be better for him, and it will prolong the fun experience.

Every time we eat ribs, the little dog gets a couple of bones. He's fine.

Dogs can eat a lot of stuff. My kid's dog was addicted to cigarettes. She would eat butts, whole packs (if s he found them) an she would always just puke.

Worst case you get some dog puke, but dogs tend to do fine with bones and it will be more memorable and he can't GULP them down.
