The Lavatubes went to a low frequency pulse width modulation that burnt the hell out of everything. Dumbest technology for an ecig. Provaris also used pulse width modulation but it was at a very high frequency. Big difference. And that’s what set the Provari apart.My first VV mod was a Lavatube, I can never forget that first time I put a Vivi Nova on top of it and got a scortched dry hit, coughed for minutes and coud not get rid of the horrible taste. Then I got a MVP 2, that one was actually OK, and the Protank 2's had come along. About nine months into vaping I finally got a Provi, and never looked back. I was running the PT2's, and would pull the silica an wick them with cotton yarn, I'd get two tanks before they needed re-wicking so I ran three or four tanks in rotation, and kept them in an Altoids tin. Every night I would re-fill/re-wick the coils so the next day I'd be ready to go.
Still got all them PT2's in the stash, and a couple hundred coils and some res/ ne res wires to rebuild the coils. Don't know if I'll ever need to go that deep into the stash, hope notI'd probably go back to using a REO first or just using a dripper...

I wont bore you with why, but I tried a silica wick a couple years ago. OMG it was horrible. Cannot believe we used that stuff. Yuck!
They also maxed out at 2.5 amps, so no matter WHAT you set the voltage to, the vape sat right where it wanted to sit. VERY frustrating (for me).

I don’t believe the original lavatube used PWM. I had one and it worked fine. They switched to PWM some time after their initial version. Fail!

Laughs, I found some of that at the bottom of my drawer and gave it a shot. It was difficult and, as you say, "Yuck".
I liked the safety and durability they engineered. My daughter is still using a Provari and I know it is safe for her. She treats a Provari like she does her car, it starts and it goes. If either of those two don't happen then it is a text to me starting with, "Hey, Dad...".

This is Wolfpack nation here (along with Tar Heel and Blue Devil nation) so I guess we're gonna have to hate each other for a day.
One that my daughter is using is a 2013 model and the other is one of the first Radii available. Her per-emption of my Provaries came after buying several cheaper mods all of which failed to survive her torture testing.
I only have one team that rises to the level of "hate". That team is the Duke basketball team. My dislike started in 1992 in the greatest single college game of all time, Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament. Duke won but it was a great game.
