kristin;
Honestly, I don't think we need more "regulations." We need industry standards of practice and an agency that is reactive rather than oppressive.
FYP :) We already have enough regulation, batteries switches the electronics in ecigs are all regulated. Even nicotine is regulated as to how much is a toxic substance and legal to purchase. The regulations we already have work so well that not one fatality has been reported. No one has been hospitalized or injured or poisoned.
Wish the same could be said for the FDA regulated NRT which has had fatalities and hospitalizations in the case of champix and poisonings from NRT gum.

Just a point of information. "NRT" is the abbreviation for Nicotine Replacement Therapy. This term only applies to treatments that contain nicotine, such as the nicotine patch, nicotine gum, nicotine lozenges, nicotine nasal spray, and nicotine inhaler.

These drugs work by partially replacing the nicotine smokers usually take in from smoking, which reduces the severity and number of withdrawal symptoms--that is, until you follow the directions and stop using them. I say "partially" because the dosages are much too low to provide enough nicotine for most smokers.

The other two drugs approved by the FDA for smoking cessation are not NRTs because they contain no nicotine.

Bupropion (Trade names Wellbutrin or Zyban) is an antidepressant, which provides relief from one of the most troubling withdrawal symptoms--depression.

Varenicline (trade names Chantix or Champix) blocks receptors in the brain to prevent nicotine from binding to them. In other words, taking Chantix makes using nicotine a less rewarding experience.

Bupropion can cause seizures and has been known to trigger suicide. Varenicline has caused some bizarre mental effects such as aggression, hostility, suicides, and even a few murders. There are no serious side effects from using NRTs. Any product that contains nicotine can be poisonous, but fatalities from oral poisoning are very rare, due to the fact that swallowing a product that contains nicotine (e.g. cigarette butts, nicotine lozenges, etc.) triggers vomiting. I tried Wellbutrin to quit and it works at first because it makes you more blasé about cravings- blasé about everything, really. But as you get accustomed to it, that wears off.

That's funny and pretty well demonstrates why people smoke for different reasons. Zyban was the perfect drug for me. I quit easily, felt great, no problems for 3 months. Script ran out, I was okay for a week and within a month, I was back to FT smoker. I'm not as influenced by the nic as the MAOI effect. E cigs helped, but I still needed a few cigs a day to feel fine. Snus took care of that issue.

I'm just getting my medication without contriputing to BP and I'm enjoying it. A little bit of WTA a week for pleasue and I'm one happy camper and saving loads of money.

I haven't smoked for years ...
Yesterday I was out shopping and asked a clerk
what the price is today for a carton of what I used to smoke ...

UNBELIEVABLE !!
hint: I used to smoke a minimum of 2 packs a day

Here's the thing - there's been enough money and will floating around that if there was even one case of significant health problems conclusively linked to vaping, it'd be out there, with trumpets. And they need that to even approach credibility. The rest is just easily challenged agitprop.
We can't have long-term data yet but I've been vaping for over 3 years and I chain-vape, 24/7 - I'm an extreme vaper by anyone's standards. I'm 62 years old. I feel wonderful, so much better than I did in my 50s when I smoked, and doc calls my lungs absolutely clear (I smoked for decades) and all systems 100% go. I run, I leap, I frolic, I BREATHE again. Like so many of us in here.
What P. found was health conscious concerns within a health conscious community, akin to the same phenomena among foodies who wonder if they should cook with Teflon and whether the rash on their nose has to do with too much sugar. (I also happen to be a very health conscious foodie, and I could go on about the regulatory corruption on that front.) Those might be legitimate inquiries/anecdotes but hardly the sort of stuff to support legislative intervention.

But wait - $850,000? THAT might really inspire some serious action... I'm hastily rethinking...

Dear ECF friends,
Please send me detailed descriptions of any and all medical problems you have had since vaping. Do not mention any related previous conditions. Do not send me information involving spontaneous relief from or discovery of other causes for symptoms. Try especially to capture moments of high anxiety that reflect normal fear of change; take these as moments of truth. I especially welcome reports by persons who suffer from somatic disorder or any of the paranoias. And who are using [rocks of nasty stuff] concurrently. Just don't put that stuff in. If possible please try really hard to explode your ecig and send photos. This is for your own good. PM me concerning remuneration.
Aubs

I love you, Aubergine!

For the benefit of Prude Talbutt, I post the following in the hopes she picks up on this while trolling/data mining E.C.F.

Since I was released from the state mental hospital after a lenghty incarceration for attempting suicide & mass murder as a result of Welbutrin use, I have started vaping. I instantly experiened the following conditions/reactions/symptons: Colic, malaise, sprouted a third eye, schizophrenia, I grew 6 inches, premature ejaculation, pregnancy, hair turned purple, voices in my head, Obama was re-elected, FDA is out to get me, I was banned on ECF, everyone smells funny and my car broke down. Please Miss Prudy, make it stop. Help me!

Can't wait to see how much of this makes it into her next "scientific" study.

Don't feel bad...

I had all of the above Before I started using e-Cigarettes. Except Colic. Never had that.

Maybe these comments should be sent to the University.
I'm still working on getting a meeting with Puritan Talbot.
But she only has one class this semester, which is a graduate course in Advanced Cell Biology.

She doesn't have "office hours" like many professors do, so I'm trying to figure out how to get a face-to-face with her.
I could use some suggestions, if anyone has any.
