Once again the search forum failed to find my answer to my dumb question. This has been bugging me. I have a 510 PT that has a battery. Why? If it's getting the power from my computer why does it need a battery on top of that? My KR808 PT doesn't have one. Both seem to do a beautiful job. What's the deal. I'm betting once I find out, I will feel like a fool for not figuring it out on my own..... Thanks to those clearer minded thinkers out there who can answer for me!:D

Actually, the main reason some pass-throughs have a battery is pretty simple. It allows you to unplug and keep vaping. Attys on these aren't powered by the USB port at all. They are powered by that battery. Plugging into the USB port recharges the battery or keeps the battery charged.

Direct pass-throughs (without a battery) run at approximately 5v (or whatever your USB is putting out). The ones with a battery run at approximately 3.7v (same as a regular ecig battery).

Another benefit of using a pass-through with a battery in-line is when choosing a portable power device. Pass-throughs need a portable power device that puts out 1A minimum. The majority of these are more expensive... say $30 and up. You can find some that are in the 700mAh range for $10-$20, sometimes less. These won't power a 'normal' pass-through, but they work fine on the ones with a battery.

There are 510 pass-throughs that don't have a battery on them.
