HI..been crazy busy and not here much these days. There is a public hearing this Monday in Pierce County, WA..as they are considering banning ecigs. I'm going to it. We had a shop open in that county so we have lots of support for the hearing. My question is: they were talking about antifreeze in the ejuice. I know I read an article somewhere on this forum with a great rebuttle to it proving that statement about antifreeze is completely wrong.
does anyone know what I'm talking about..and better can you post the link with the article that challenged that statement with the facts? Wow, our first little store opens and all hell breaks loose. I met the owner yesterday(Kim) and she is putting up a great fight. 5CS, this is so close to both of us. I'm going to tell my story at the hearing. I was very sick for years and I am inflicted with a disease that can't be cured. However, I also had asthma and constantly coughed. Within less than 3 months switching to vaping instead of smoking....my asthma went away and I have been asthma free for 7 months now. Anyway, they want me to tell my story so I am. What gets me steaming the most is what one of the board members said about ecigs..and I quote, "if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it is a duck". How PATHETIC is that?

The reason they started using it in anti freeze was because the old style antifreeze was killing too many pets. It was quite tasty to cats in particular that lapped up antifreeze that came out the overflow of automobiles. The problem is it was quite tasty but also quite deadly so they started making antifreeze that was safe.

I guess I need to pay attention because this is the first thing I heard about it. But I figured it was coming. Pierce County has never made a decision of their own. They just follow whatever King County does. I don't know why they don't just make King County take over Pierce County and be one big county because in a sense that's all it is anyway.

I got so mad about this last night I had to edit my post.
Catherine, thank you for standing up and being counted I hope you will have many others backing you up.
Here are some things you might want to use to enlighten these folks.

A ban on anything is a very serious matter and by using the ”duck” analogy shows a level of arrogance and ignorance that proves this individual is not fit to hold public office. Take the offense and relate to them for what they are... employees. Ask pointed questions about their knowledge of the PV. Are they aware that this device was invented in China by a man to help his father to QUIT smoking? Are they aware that a PV has no combustion, no smoke, no second hand smoke, no side stream smoke, creates no ashes, no butts, no carbon monoxide, no lingering smell, no tar and virtually none of the thousands of other chemicals and carcinogens found in tobacco cigarettes?

When you get down to the bottom line there is only one thing this device does that could remotely have an effect on anyone else … exhaled nicotine. The liquid used in this device has a diluted amount of nicotine and the user absorbs virtually all of that. The nicotine that is being exhaled is so miniscule that it’s insignificant and on par with the breath of someone chewing nicotine gum. If they want to be consistent with their bans they should also ban nicotine gum. Perhaps they should also put a ban on coffee. They can’t have people running around with a cup of coffee spewing out all of that caffeine vapor because when it comes to health concerns caffeine and nicotine are in the same boat.

Instead of a ban what this council should be doing is conducting a more thorough investigation. It’s obvious they have spent very little time reviewing the positive aspects of this device. If I had to guess they are probably relying on dubious information put forth by the FDA. Are they aware that of the twelve member FDA Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Panel 7 have tobacco and pharmaceutical financial interests? There are very serious and credible individuals and organizations that dispute what the FDA has put forth. You might start with The Consumer Advocates for Smoke Free Alternatives Association (casaa.org), or contact Dr. Michael Siegel who is a Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Boston University School of Public Health who is an expert in this field. The hope is that after some thorough research this council will embrace and encourage the use of the Electronic Cigarette as an alternative to smoking. Be leaders and help to educate the public about this lifesaving device.

Since this person is so fond of analogies, here is one that is a better fit. "Just because a porpoise looks like a fish and swims like a fish.. doesn't make it a fish."

I sent you a "PM" earlier today catherine with info. Did you see it?
Yes Rosco...thanks. You were right. CSAA is already all over it. I managed to find the site for comments, too. (thanks Bovinia) Hey 5C..I noticed you made a comment. My comment came in right behind yours. Thanks for doing that. I'm going back to the owners shop today. She's going to navigate where I need to go to tell my story to all the officials and the Health board. Wish I wasn't such a computer dummy but I sure do get lots of support from people to help me get where I need to be.

They use that "walks like a duck" analogy a lot. They obviously think it's really clever.

My response is, "THAT is a goose you are looking at, not a duck."

Some people just can't seem to tell the difference!

Ya I wrote that Muir an email because he's against it. In the paper they said the board was split on it so we do stand a chance.

SC....very well put...if I get called upon to speak (we have 3 minutes) I may tweak and highlight points what you have stated here and read it at the hearing. It is also "asthma awareness month" for this board and county. I may end it by reminding them it is asthma awareness month and end it by holding up my inhaler and stating that since I swithced from smoking to vaping 9 months ago..I have been asthma free for the past 7 months. Thank you for your post.
