I found the fireplace repair,, will hold up to 2000 deg.. Also found some silicone but only goes to 500 degrees.. Also found some heat shrink tubing. May not be small enough. Probably have to go to radio shack..
Pic of silicone I found at lowesView attachment 163735
Now that looks like it should work. Good find.

Here are pics of fireplace repair.. Container and how it is in the package.. Very smooth stuff, I will be using it on a bit of Pyrex I have laying around and see also if it holds the wire ok..

My first impression is that it may not stick to the glass very well.. It is a silicate product, and after semi curing for an hour it says to slowly heat for full cure..here is a pic I put on top of Pyrex as a test with just a wire sticking out..
I also put a Dab on the glass to see how hard it connects to the glass..ImageUploadedByTapatalk1356550697.802161.jpg

Ok I think we have a winner.. The fireplace repair seems to be working great.. It really does solidify like concrete, and it glowed a bit when I put the blue flame to it out of my torch, there were no fumes to speak of, and the wire is solid in the top.. The piece on the glass that u see under the top has solidified to the glass like it was part of it. With some scraping of my fingernail it did come off, but the stuff on top, when I tried to pull it off would not budge....one tub will last a lifetime... Lol

I can send out 4-5 packages of it wrapped in foil then wrap in plastic if anyone wants to try some...and I can throw in a few DIY gloves for really making it look professional.. I just tooth picked that stuff on.

Oh and I had to really squeeze it between between my fingers and twist it hard to get any crumbs and it was very little

Here is a pic of it after I heat treated it.. Notice it turned Greyish...

poland, and the brassy lands of google
I have a vacuum pump and would hook up a tube from it to the glass. Draw a suction on it while sealing one end. Then seal the other with a heat and crimp method. In theory this should help to seal the tube and it would be containment free inside so the coil would last a very very long time.

I don't think that will do it. The point is to remove the oxygen or replace with an inert gas like argon so that the coil will not oxidize. I doubt this could be pulled off in the kitchen or a workshop, but if you can and while you are at it, I'd like some 100W incandescents please. I miss those. :p

That is very promising... Did you tug on the wire to see how hard/easy it is to get it to come out of the tube?

That's right!!! There's a thread that talks about coating coils. I posted the link there. It is meant to be applied right onto the coil or on the outside of the ss wick that your wrapping.
It looks really good Scott, and beats mine by 600 deg f.. Lol

It really does look great..and if I read right it can even coat coils???

Yeah I'm no scientist, but I think there's a possibility it could be dangerous if you worked in a factory that uses this to insulate heating elements or whatever and it's being sanded down or smashing it, causing a bunch of dust to suspend in the air in high concentrations.
Well under firefighting measures it was all N/A no special requirements to fighting...
