Okay, ECF-ers....

I was recently out of town and met a smoker who was quite curious with my vaping. He told me he was about to go on a 12 day hike with his boy scout troop and was thinking of taking some vape gear with him on the trip because he can't really smoke around the scouts but still wants the nicotine. We started brainstorming about what to take to make it through a 12 day hike.

I figure vaping would be rather limited during the hike and would occur mainly in the mornings and evenings during the down times.

I would take the following:
- (4) eGo twists 1300 mAh (1 per 3 days)
- 40mls of unflavored / uncolored juice at 12mg (unflavored and uncolored would be easier on coils)
- (3-4) Kanger Evods (ready with head installed)
- (4) extra heads
- One Otterbox to hold it all.

Space is, of course, an issue, and there's no options for recharging. What vape gear would you take?

I am away from home and electricity for many days at a time so I have a solution that works for me.

- Magneto Mod & Panzer Mod with 15 watt kicks
- 4 18500 batteries
- solar charger (slow but works)
- Storm-a & Atomic RDA's
- some kanthal, cotton and a screw driver
- couple 20ml bottles of e-juice

I like to use the kicks and 18500's when away from home for extended periods because I don't carry a ohm meter or multimeter away from home, it gives me that bit of safety just in case. I also almost never have to rebuild away from home, a quick dry burn and rewicking is all that is usually required. The 18500’s also take a lot less time to charge on my solar charger. Trying to charge vtc5 18650's or god forbid my mnke 26650’s on a solar charger is a lesson in futility.

Note: should have said about 6 mls e-juice per day instead of couple 20 ml bottles. :)

I know this is heresy but I might just hit the analogs for such a trip.

Maybe a vv tube mod and a bunch of batteries along with some higher nic juice to avoid having to fire it as much? I find it hard to believe that one would have time to run a solar charger while on the move all day. In a stationary camping situation that would be an option however.

That sounds reasonable for a light vaper. However, I would suggest flavoured eliquid as it's just so much more satisfying. Getting 10mls through each coil is a reasonable expectation - bit spares are definitely wise.

It's a good idea for him to try it all out before he goes, just to be sure the coils he's fitted are working, and he's happy with the eliquid flavour, PG/VG ratio, and nicotine strength. He also needs to bear in mind that vaping is dehydrating so he'll need to carry additional drinking water.

A solar charger is a good option. My friend's lent me one to take on a hike next weekend. I haven't tested it yet, but he's used it to keep his mobile phone topped up during long cycle trips (longer than 12 days). It's pretty light and you just clip it to the outside of your backpack. Just hoping the sun shines for my charger next weekend!
