Questions on RM4

Hi all, I'm about to get an RM4 LP

It's 19mm wide and my deck on my REO Mini 2.1 looks to be 18mm

Are the deck widths of the mini and grand the same I'm wondering?

My big question is this.

The coils look to be a lot higher on the RM4 then my RM2. Is this an issue with wicking? I'm using readyx wick. On the RM2 the coils look to sit a lot lower and I rarely have any issues with wicking. I'm wondering if they could be lower than how he does them in the video? Or would they be too low for the air holes?

The coils do sit a lot higher in the rm4. Best way to deal with that IMHO when using RxW is to set your coils at an angle.

IME, the coils need to be in line with the airholes. I did a nice slanted coil that I'd recommend you try with the RxW- there is enough room to have a nice slant.

I have an RM4 I use often. I set mine up with dual coils. I position the coils even with the air holes in the cap. I haven't had any wicking problems. The RM4 doesn't get talked about a lot; at least not enough, in my opinion. It's a very nice atty.

You prolly want to keep the coils up at the air holes. Tilted with RxW, per above, is a good idea.

I find I have no issues with hot legs, if that's a concern, too.

You don't, because once the wick is saturated, it will pull juice up to the coil. You don't have to squint to the point where you're reaching the coil. Just into the base is all that's necessary.

And to answer your other question, I think the catch cups on the Mini and the Grand are the same, and I'm pretty sure you need a low profile REO to accommodate an RM4.

Rm4 is the only reomizer I have used and it is great in both single and dual coil modes. The coils do sit high but I have never had problems with wicking when using rayon or japanese cotton. I have no experience with ready wick however.

It looks like a LP to me, plus you said it's a mini 2.1. I think all the 2.1 were LP's, could be wrong on that though.

Yes that is an LP and mini 2.1 are sold in both LP and regular.

If yes, is there a purpose for it that i am unaware of?

I've seen two reasons for using the o ring on the cap instead of under the RBA.

a few people have reported leaking at the threads of the cap

To change how the air hole lines up in relation to the posts when the cap is tightened down.

On some RM2's, the air hole doesn't line up with the coil. You can use an o-ring to compensate, or sand/grind down the edge of the top cap to get it back into alignment. I've done the grind on several of my older RM2's, the more you grind, the further clockwise it will sit. You can go a little at a time and test fit until you have it the way you want it, then you don't need the o-ring.

I also do the grind / file instead of using a o ring, since it makes the chamber slightly smaller instead of slightly bigger with the o ring.
