No worries Anna... I have my drinking under control (have for years) and if it makes you feel any better, I had another backup plan (I still have some opiate meds from surgery I could take to take the edge off and that first day it might have helped but I certainly won't do that AND drink so I am choosing my battles one at a time) I'm broke again and tomorrow I might take a pain pill (even after surgery only took them for 3 days and switched to motrin... have a bunch left and haven't touched them... I have very good self-control) If you want to be concerned about me, be worried that mom will drive me crazy and I just kill myself (there are days... completely sober, that that thought has crossed my mine)
hey folks... the long term solution is to get a job, save some money and move back to mountains (that's all I really want)

LOL dude I'm not accusing you of any addiction, you're the only one that can do that or not (in my non role as a SW in life and sometimes often then, I am like, only you inhabit yourself so only you can know) I was merely pointing out my ability to get addicted to anything pretty much.

Do not even get me started on opiates other than to note, if I do decide to take them up one more I want a terminal dose of hemlock when I am ready but like, ALL the cigarettes in the universe until then. Well, not all. If I'm being hypothetical I am going to stick to Nat Shermans and American Spirits the additives in most other brands are gross.

But whatever works for you BE MY GUEST INDEED!

I guess I was lucky when the vape came on the scene. I was so infatuated with my eGo and Joye 510 cigalike that I sometimes forgot to smoke. After several months of vaping I was down to one cig in the morning, one after a meal, and one before bed at night. The rest of the time I was vaping 24mg juice in the ciga-like 510 or the Joye eGo.

3 or 4 months in I decide not to buy any more cigs once the carton was gone. I ran out of cigs and vaped like a fiend. It was then that I realized I didn't need to buy more cigarettes. That was in early Summer 2010. Haven't wanted one since, but I vape 3mg juice constantly from morning until bedtime.

I wish the same results on all who switch to vaping. It works if you give it a chance.

Stopping smoking wasn't a choice for me, it was a necessity.
Diagnosed with two blocked arteries in my left leg, and one in my right leg, last summer. Couldn't walk more than 40-50 paces without pain and cramp in my calves due to lack of blood flow. Without major surgery and stopping smoking there was a good chance I'd need an amputation below the knee.
Lose the cigs or lose my foot?
Stopped smoking end of July 2019, with the help of vaping, patches, nicotine mints, and friends and family.
First vascular arterial op was early November 2019. 51cm scar from my groin to my calf on the inside of my left leg. 2nd op was February 2020, with 2 smaller 20cm scars on the inside of my right leg.
I'm 53, and was a very heavy smoker for 38 years.
If I can quit, anyone can. I have zero will power.
Concentrate on one thing at a time. If you want a drink, have a drink. That can be addressed later.
Next time you think about buying a pack of cigs, think about how you'd afford major surgery.
I never thought that it would happen to me.
I have some gross out pics after surgery, if it helps to persuade anyone?
Best of luck with your battle, you are not alone.

    Same for me.
I had a stroke that left me permanently blind in one eye.
Doctors told me I had a 50% chance of losing vision in the other eye within 5 years.
    They suggested strongly I quit....

    Top respect @puffon.
My experience was a walk in the park, no pun intended, compared to yours.
I'm gobsmacked that, with all of the confirmed scientific evidence of the damage that tar and CO2 do when injested into the human body, that cigarettes are still legally sold.

    Day 6... no tobacco.
@Captain Grey , hello, welcome and thank you!
I have to ask about your avatar... it reminds me of this show I watched as a young kid... marionettes that flew around in this rocket plane (can't recall the name... may Thunderbirds?)
Thanks for the welcome, @vaper1960, and you have my sympathy and empathy for your current situation with both quitting cigs and supporting an elderly parent.
You're close, real close, and I'm sure we grew up watching the same kid's programmes.
My avatar is from Captain Scarlet, similar marionettes from Gerry & Sylvia Anderson.
Captain Grey was a bit player, didn't feature much, and was less colourful than the main cast.

Well I would say I am shocked but not shocked, because you know tobacco lobby politics. Etc.

@vaper1960 WAY TO GO!!!! Time two was a lot harder, don't let it be time 3. I am not gonna.

I mean unless the husband dies, at which point I am going to grieve in the WAY I chose to grieve, so far I have "Don't stop vaping but smoke one pack of American, oh heck go the whole way most expensive Nat Shermans and answering everything with a loud WAIL of incoherence for at least six months."

So I'm gonna have to buy him better life insurance is what it comes down to I think. I will be busy.
