Check your stash listings; and make sure you are using the most common/popular listing for each given concentrate. Here is an example of what I am talking about:Getting kinda annoyed with ELF... I have like 15 flavors in my stash but only 4 recipes come up when I click "what can I make", and they're all the same flavor profile.
I used a random concentrate name (Am4a by Inawera), I knew only one manufacturer offers, to keep the example simple. Note there is only one concentrate in reality. But, there are 5 possible listings available on ELR. If I had chosen a concentrate name, that a lot of different mfgs.all make (e.g. vanilla bean ice cream), the listings balloon (85 possibles)!
This is caused by allowing open input of flavor names. Each and every variant (spelling, capitalization, punctuation, typos, abbreviations, locator designations, etc.) all create a "new" ingredient. And, only recipes using that exact same-named ingredient (as you have chosen for your stash), will show up in your searches.
(This is why All The Flavors (ATF) has a locked ingredient list; and only allows the user to select concentrates from their "approved" list of concentrates.
ELR is trying to clean up duplicates; but it is an ongoing process, and it will take a while.)
ELR is trying to clean up duplicates; but it is an ongoing process, and it will take a while.)
In the example above: If I chose the one listed at the bottom for my flavor stash; I would only get (at most) two recipes returned in any searches. However, if I choose the second option (with the green arrow); I could see as many as 1909 recipes from a search. (Note: "private" recipes will not be displayed in search results; but are still included in the recipe count.)
By clicking on the "Recipe" header (highlighted yellow), I can re-order the list, from high to low:
When I am looking to add a new ingredient, I will do the following:
-- type in the complete name, exactly as it appears on the label, in all lower case. (check for typos)
-- I do not include manufacturer. (Mfg. designations are not always what I think they should be: TFA is actually TPA; INW is written out as Inawera; etc.)
-- I then click "Search" to get the greatest number of possible results.
-- I sort results by clicking on the "Recipes" header.
-- I scan down the list, until I find the right mfg with the greatest number of recipes, and click on the flavor name of the appropriate one. This will open the details for that ingredient.
-- Directly under the ingredient name, I will see a green box labeled "Add to stash," and click that:
If it is already in your stash, it will display like this:
Alternatively, one can add ingredients, directly in their flavor stash. The numbers inside the parentheses (all in green) are the recipes available. I just find this more difficult to read/interpret (and thereby select the wrong one), it doesn't allow for secondary sorts, and can require scrolling. Some folks prefer it; but I am all about the slow and thorough. My cruddy old eyes like big full screen displays.
I hope this will help you get better search results.
