With the custard it calls for the month steep. I got both of the mixes done but since I'm not a fan of the Russian Vodka flavor I used the Lt Rum instead. So my Sea Breeze is not a Sea Breeze at all. I'll have to find a more suiting name for it.
'Round here, we just call them Pink Drinks, anyway.

I'm beginning to find that the recipes, that I find, are too strong for me. I've reduced the flavor amount by 20% and thinking of going even less. The kicker is that I mix for some relatives and friends and they think the original recipes are just fine. Since I am now in my golden (rust) years have my taste buds changed? Everything else has changed, so why not.

    Somewhere between here and there
I’m starting to find that myself. It seems like when there are five or more flavors then it makes a muddled mess. Maybe my buds aren’t sensitive enough to pick out the flavors or something.

I’m thinking that I need to add some em and maybe honey to my lemonade recipes.

Same thing happened to me a year or so ago.

I think it was smart of you to use rum. I tried one recipe so far with Russian Vodka and just like IRL it does not have much of a taste and more of a TH only. I may try it one more time before throwing the towel in.

The one shot from chefs is better after a week or two of steeping.

When I was first planning to do DIY, I bought four Chefs one shot flavors x 30mls each. I thought this would be an easy way to get started as well as determine if I like DIY. Easy yes, but taste no. I found out after the fact the one shots I bought have sucralose or EM in it which of course mutes the entire juice flavor for me.

This morning I mixed two FAUK one shot blends because I know they do not have any type of sweeteners plus one FC which I am not sure about. I have three more to mix later this week. Hopefully out of the five or six, there will be a couple that I like even though I may have to add to it in the end. FAUK has more one shot blends however Chefs does not carry them although they did inventory one for me that I inquired about. I can order directly from FAUK however they have the expensive shipping because of tracking.

I love the recipes that use a dozen flavors — my mind would stray away long before I even got close to the end ;)

Even though there could be a flavor in a recipe that I cannot taste, I find that it may have other attributes such as providing texture, mouth feel, etc. I believe it is in the Gallagher's Ice Pop recipe where CAP Hibiscus is used in a small amount. If I remember correctly the reason it is there is to provide that syrupy sticky feeling you get when you tear a wrapper off an ice pop even though you cannot taste it the hibiscus.

When I first started mixing, I was mixing HIC recipes exclusively and we all know he uses low total flavor percents. At this point I was coming off of commercial juices and I was fortunate enough where I was able to taste what I mixed. It never occurred to me to compare flavor strength between his recipes and commercial because quite honestly I wanted to DIY due to all the sucralose in commercial juices which I could not taste even at 25-30%. In the end some of them I increased by 1.5 across all flavors especially if I mixed a large bottle.

Have you changed your recipe flavor amounts and if so how?
As a side note getting old is just WONDERFUL!!!!
I generality mix under 10% flavor now.Only go over that when necessary. Oh yes, getting old is tons of fun.

I like the Lt Rum quite a bit. I didn't get anything out of the vodka, not even TH.

I just refuse to mix a recipe with a dozen flavors. I've mixed some in the past and have never been impressed with any. If a recipe has over 6 flavors I'm not likely to mix it. I was happy when I finally got to where I can actually write my own successful recipes. Makes things easier.I do find some recipes that sound good to me (mostly here in this thread). I end up butchering most of them terribly but once in awhile I mix as is.

My biggest snafu so far was ordering almost all of the ingredients for the Dripping recipe. I think there was nine or ten in it and I didn’t end up liking it much.
