Easy for me at work is to try to not lift anything unnecessary but still on my feet trying to get something done. Not a lot of desk work to be done at my job.
You might try a lidocaine patch. There is a prescription-strength that is only available with a script but the over-the-counter patch is almost as strong and these things do work. Icy Hot and Salonpas are both good brands of the lidocaine patch. My pharmacist husband says that the OTC ones should work almost as well as the prescription strength as there is only a 1% difference between the two. It worked wonders on a muscle strain in my shoulder that was excruciating.
