I just got a lengthy email from Bulk Apothecary, explaining to customers about the many reasons for the long delays in shipping packages from them (mostly hand sanitizer, but other products, too). As part of that email, they included the quoted info below. It will explain about the sanitizer you likely used at the liquor store and how a bunch of it from now on may smell like that, too.

"Many states are actually mandating hand sanitizer is supplied to customers and employees before a business can reopen. This has caused global shortages of synthetic alcohol. As a result, the TTB and FDA have issued guidance for manufacturers to use plant-based ethanols in hand sanitizer. This creates a product that has a liquor smell that many customers don’t like. It’s important to note that this is a global issue and almost every hand sanitizer brand in the U.S has been forced to use this new “smelly” alcohol for at least some of their production."

I feel so badly for Bulk Apothecary. This info was also part of their lengthy email:

They have a warehouse full of inventory that they just can’t get shipped quickly enough. They're shipping tens of thousands of units each day and just don’t have the labor to ship any faster. They're working with what employees they have left, paying them double pay for each additional shift they want to work, and even hiring as many employees as they can get through temp. agencies...to fulfill the orders they have. Their own costs for components used in many things they make that people are ordering...have gone up in many cases by 225% (for alcohol) - 800% on the pumps for the gallon jugs of hand sanitizer, and buyers are ticked off about that, too. They have truckloads of returned UPS packages to process, that were ordered by businesses that then closed down after Bulk Apothecary shipped their orders to them. They're even getting threats of bodily harm from people wanting them to move their orders to the front of the line as far as fulfillment and many of them posting mean comments about the company on social media websites.

I've been dealing with BA for more than 5 years, and they're really super nice people who run the company. I hate that this is happening to them. :(
I got the same email, very sad.

Crazy times for sure. I wasn't complaining, more like sharing a funny story. Wow, can't believe they are getting threats of bodily harm, people need to chill the F out. Lots more people here driving crazy than I've seen before. Almost got sideswiped many times from early lane changers with no signals. Not a good thing in a car, worse on a motorcycle. I think many of those people had their give-a-dam busted. Hope it all gets less chaotic soon. Funny, when I was young, I used to enjoy chaos, like I was the center of a tornado, the calm center in the storm. Now, I feel like I'm one more piece to fall on life's cosmic chessboard.

I haven't done a check of my untried flavors, I know there are quite a few.. the most glaring, favorite of FranC, INW Rhubarb:facepalm: It's on my to be mixed list but didn't make my last round of mixing, Acai took precedence and it's still steeping. To borrow a quote from Princess Bride 'I hate waiting!'.

I received my first gallon of gel hand sanitizer from them today and the gallon of spray hand sanitizer is on its way. People on Facebook are really not being nice about the long wait. I feel so bad for this company. They are offering sanitizer at a very fair price. The world is different and things are not what they used to be and I don’t think people are being fair.

Just opened my hand sanitizer and it is different. The label says it is plant based, 70%, with a slight lavender smell. I plan on adding a few drops of my fragrance oil that I use when I make my homemade body butter. It does not smell like alcohol at all to me.

I could understand being frustrated, IF the company hadn't forewarned customers about a likely 2-3 week wait and also updated them with emails about shipping times, delays, etc. But...that hasn't been the case, at all. People still placed their orders knowing that info. and some are now even threatening them??? o_O I hope what they say about Karma is 100% true, as far as those people threatening them are concerned.

I know that I have flavors that I've bought and either never tried or never used in a recipe. I'd guess that I'm not the only one on this thread like that. I was thinking it might be fun to go through my flavor list and pick out flavors that I haven't used and make some recipes with them. Good or bad, it might be interesting. We could even turn it into a game of sorts if others wanted to do the same. We could post what we come up with and tell if they are good or bad.

I like this idea. Every time I order I always think, "why not try something with the 130 flavors I have not used yet".

    Untried is......so far.
    VTA Love
    VTA Chocolate Custard
    FLV Grape
    VTA Coffee Milk Froth
    JF Biscuit
    TFA Crunchy Berry Cereal

If anyone has a personal opinion of any of those I’d like to hear.

I like coffee milk froth.... it adds a creamy note along with a nice coffee taste. I used it at 1.5% but will go higher the next time I use it.

What is Love supposed to be?

Probably taste like cat pheromones'. LOL. I would play with more enthusiasm if I were not the cook but also the taster.

Unfortunately I have tasted the unfortunately tasting "joy" already (it tastes like whatever the opposite of joy is to you" So it is spooky in that regard. But I have tons, including fig I may go for deep thought and pairing or just shoving things together. Although I will try to keep better notes than like, normal so repeatability well, it's an OPTION. LOL

Yeah ,I was a wild child also for awhile. How things change.

I think having been one too, and I was um, rather obnoxious, you grow up and realize you can change and it's actually HARDER for you, you have tons of bad habits and stuff, but if you don't change, you will die.

A lot of folks just have the misfortune of being awful human beings. Like the head of my program, her runs some rescue mission to IDK where but he goes there and stuff. HOWEVER, our work had NO prudent reserve absolutely none . He was furloughing people left and right and these were often single parents with children.

He and his spouse who is second in command (I think like her um, credentials were "I'm married to that guy" well guess what, they have a NANNY and you should have heard him go on about it during my interview how HIS children suffered.

I really wanted to email: "Have you furloughed the nanny too, yet, so you can be like everyone else ,in the leaky boat you built?" That was what ticked me off the worst. I was not working 60 hour weeks to look good but for the MAs who were hardly getting any hours .To be accused by my boss of STEALING patients (THERE WAS NO one CROSS COVERING BEHIND me at all everything I did, had it not been done, would not have been done at ALL.) I was like "F this, my doc says I am going to do myself in, I think now is the time to PACK it in.

"Stealing patients," uh yeah sorry you put me somewhere busy and I know how to multitask.

I know that doctor probably got drunk one time in his life, but really some people should DO DRUGS a few times just to get a life. I don't suggest that any longer, not since my little bro smoked dope on my suggestion and hooked up on some chick, cheating on his GF. My statement "You are lazy, like food and listening to music I am telling you MJ is for you," had unintended CONSEQUENCES. I felt awful I never recommend specific drugs to folks any longer but I THINK it sometimes.:lol::lol:

I would give evil doc Salvia and hope he lived a lengthy life time as a serf. I'd give his spouse ....... and she could yell at someone at some time.
