Oh, I love raw oysters... one of the best things out of the ocean.
IMO...raw oysters are just disgusting and "nasty". They remind me of something that might come out of an elephant's trunk! And before anyone asks...Yes, I've tried 1 before. EEEWWW! Just couldn't swallow it, even after 15 minutes with it in my mouth...trying to get it to go down. Finally gave up and spit it out, to avoid getting sick. I've never "had 1 too many" and tried
that again! Not even stone cold sober...no way.
Also: "Eating
raw shellfish, especially
oysters, may put you at risk for
hepatitis A. Bivalves such as
oysters and clams filter large amounts of water when feeding. If shellfish are living in water that has been contaminated with stool containing the
hepatitis A virus, the shellfish may carry the virus."
My brother and 9 other customers got Hepatitis A from eating raw oysters at a seafood restaurant 1 week-end, many years ago. I was home from college, and around him a day or 2 after he'd eaten there. I'd gone back though
before he was diagnosed and the restaurant was linked to the other 8 cases, too. So...I got a call at college telling me
I had to go to the local hospital and get a Gammaglobulin shot because
he had Hepatitis A, and I'd been around him. That sucker hurt like a

and left a knot on my upper hip for almost 5 full days! And
I didn't even EAT any of the

raw oysters!
